Installed VRSF 3" downpipes and have had a pretty loud rattle for a while. I finally hopped under my car to see what the problem is and the "Right Downpipe" (if laying under the car with your feet towards the engine) is clearly rubbing on the heat shield next to it. What have you guys done to ensure you don't have exhaust rattles with all these big downpipes?

I hammered that section in about 1/4"-1/2", problem solved.

We get at least a couple posts a month about DP rattles and it's generally caused by two things.

The first is wastegate rattle, it's more pronounced with aftermarket downpipes and the other is incorrect positioning of the short pipe upon install. The v-bands allow the pipe to rotate in a few different positions and you have to make sure to keep the pipe as far from the sub frame as possible when installing. The easy fix is to loosen the rear turbo's v-band, remove all 4 bolts/nuts for the mid pipe, rotate the short pipe towards the long pipe, tighten the v-band, install the nuts/bolts.

I've personally fixed at least a dozen installs that were either done by the users or a "reputable" mechanic by doing this exact fix. If the short pipe's clearance is overlooked upon install, it will rub.

You shouldn't have to hammer anything but if you're going to try to clear anything out of the way, the heatshiled is pretty maleable and can give you a few mm of clearance..
