It was on the doors in my previous 328i but I have no idea where it is on the two series (that I ordered) and now have.

You have premium package? If so, its on door handles, bottom of doors, and in foot well area.

With premium, will it turn on as you approach the car? Or do you have to press the unlock button the key fob to get it to turn on?

I think it lights up as you approach.

I do not have premium or tech package but in settings on my Msport it offers two settings for ambient lighting, classic and sport. Have no idea what the difference is

I think it is the color: blue or red, my brother had that on his 116d, he tought it was quickly looking like a strip club

It turns on as soon as you put your hand on the handle and active comfort access. Turns off when you touch the handle to lock, which imo should be a delay instead of immediate.

Without the prem package the only ambient lighting I have found are those two tiny little lights in the overhead console that stay on when lights are on. The two settings are red or white
