New Cadillac CTS!!!
I don’t know if it’s because I’m from Detroit and I see a million of them everyday, but I hate the new Cadillac CTS. I don’t know which annoys me more, the car itself or the people who drive them. I’m sure this goes both ways, but I always get the sense that the moron who pulls up next to me is convinced that their car is superior to mine because of Cadillac’s marketing (brainwashing). It seems to me these cars are marketed to 15 yr olds. They seem to be taking the approach of, “yeah, my car’s better than yours” and then jamming juvenile rock music to drive home their point. This all seems very “American” to me. BMW has never taken a marketing approach this brash, even in the American market. I will say this however, the exterior isn’t bad. I could even go so far as to say it’s a decent looking car, except in typical Cadillac fashion, it appears to be very “Flash”. To each his own on the interior, but I personally am not a fan. One could argue that it’s nice looking, but another Cadillac trait makes itself readily known when you begin a closer inspection. Some of the materials look like they were pulled from a Cavalier, and I think the automatic shift knob actually was! It’s these small quality issues that really kill the company. Their recent designs just don’t stand the test of time. They seem disposable, almost as if they were designed for today only. If you were to drive a 10 yr old Catera (the caddy that zigs) and a 10 yr old 3 series, both kept in similar condition and with similar mileage, the BMW would still feel like a solid, well built vehicle, the Catera would feel like a 10 yr old, $6k death box. (I won’t even lower myself to discuss a design comparison) All Cadillac’s also have comical resale value. I can get a low mileage, well kept first generation CTS in the low teens all day long. Numbers don’t lie. I think one of the largest issues is the fact that Cadillac stopped being a player in the 80’s. There is no longer a Cadillac mystique. The Cimarron and Catera didn’t help their cause. Neither did the Seville, which was built up until 2004, and had 300hp running through the front wheels!!! What were they thinking? I don’t know if I’m the only one who feels this way, but Cadillac needs to step off their high horse and come back down to reality, and show the rest of the industry some respect. Considering their parent company is an automotive juggernaut, their product is embarrassing crap. Remember when they introduced the first generation CTS and all of their marketing was focusing on the fact that the car’s handling was honed at the Nurburgring? I do. I also remember when all of the comparison tests soon followed, and the car was trounced by the competition. Much like the all-new, all-conquering CTS. Congrats Cadillac, once again, you’ve produced a decent looking car with no substance, and I hate it.

The new CTS exterior is... Amazing.
However, I also agree that the interior is lacking. I don't think I am being brainwashed with the CTS marketing at all, its not that heavy. |

Before I bought the E90 I was considering the 06 CTS. I did a couple of test drives and really liked the way it felt on the road. It had pretty good handling, good acceleration and the six-speed shifted really smoothly. I almost bought one but I didn't like the interior and I could not get the color combo that I wanted.
Once I drove the E90 it was clear which car I wanted. That CTS would have set me back a little less cash but the BMW was the better car. I actually like the looks of the new CTS.

I saw a Black Cherry CTS at the LA Auto Show, and it was pretty damn impressive.

My whole take on it is I look at Cateras driving around and they just don't do anything for me. Back in the day I thought they looked kind of good b/c Cadillac hadn't produced anything that had looked like that before. I think the same thing is going to happen to the CTS, either the market is going to get even more flooded by them and in return take every last ounce of "special" out of it or it's design is going to look boring and bland in a couple of years (ei. catera). I still look at older bimmers and think they look great! Maybe it's just personal preference but put it like this how many people you know just dream of owning a mid to late 80's cadillac?

Interior is bad? Are you serious?
If CTS interior is bad than what about BMW 3 series interior?! HORRIBLE?! CTS has atleast a ten times better looking interior than the 3 series, and I'll take the new CTS-V over a 335 without thinking twice |

Here. You have to appreciate the edgy unity of design, and line flow. From the front bumper to the fender and hood, even the side mirrors and doors. The headlight and grill theme carries on toward the bottom of the bumper. I like everything but the wheels and side vent.

I like the new CTS as well. It drove pretty nicely and the interior materials used is definitely on par if not better then the 3 series. The only quibble is the ultra low air dam. When we came back from the test drive and my dad parked it, the lower part of the air dam was scraping the cement thingy that parking spots normally have( sorry can't remember the name). So unless you love scratches on your car, be careful parking it.

It amazes me that everyone is saying what they are saying. You're simply proving my point. You're all saying "the car looks great", "it's a good looking car","great design" etc., etc. Who cares??? Yes, it's decent looking, but the CAR is crap. Engine, suspension, materials: crap. The CTS is a hot air balloon and the 3 series is an F22 Raptor. Cadillac needs to stop advertising its supposed, superficial, juvenile superiority. They did the same thing with the original CTS.That car used to look "decent" too. Defend it all you like. 5 years from now, the new CTS is just another $12k car. It's all about quality, not looks. If you ever have the opportunity to inspect one, just check out a few things like the fog light surrounds, the fender grills, etc. You won't believe the quality and feel of the materials Cadillac is using on a $40k+ car. For God's sake, they've had 20+ years to try and at least match BMW's build quality and handling dynamics. What exactly have they been doing during that time??? If this is the best America can come up with, we're in serious trouble.
