I love the art of tattoos but I wouldn't get one myself.

Always wanted one, and I even have the picture ready, but no time or ability to decide the area it would go to. For a female it's more difficult to come up with a spot, since we tend to age so well...

Why do you get them? I know it's probably a stupid question, but hey, I'm the master of those!

My wife got one of a butterfly right above her shoulder blade. It’s a beautiful design
although I’m not crazy about it. Her body, her decision.

If your a stripper, I see how one in a good place (not forehead) would show, but otherwise I see no reason to not have one if you like them.

If you are indeed a male stripper, please ruin this thread with videos, I'm bored and coffee ran out already.

I'm the same. I want one and I have the design, but the timing for it has been terrible lately.

haha. I too have a career and have a tattoo on my chest. Pretty easy to enjoy tattoos and have a successful career if they are easily hidden under everyday clothes.

This. I know some executives of large, recognizable companies that have tattoos.

I have quite a few now, have an appointment next week for another large piece on my leg. The only one that I have that is possibly visible when I'm in typical business attire is the word "family" on my left wrist, which can be mostly covered with a watch. Never seemed to have an issue throughout my career and now that I own my own businesses I'm even less concerned about the stigma that has already been shown in this thread.

Hold on, I'll come up with something!

My mother flipped when she saw my ex a million years ago with a huge tattoo. She couldn't utter a word for hours, and then she asked him where he did his time. I may have forgotten to mention to the snob that the guy was in meds school, and the ex played nice and told her that his tendency to steal cars gets him in trouble all the time. I don't think my mother slept for a week.

That's a good reason, mine will (if I decide the spot finally) be done from the photo I took 2 seconds after I finally had to grow up. Memories are permanent anyway, so why not.

I know plenty of careers where tattoos aren't forbidden per se but they do serve as red flags during the hiring process.

Personally I think discrimination based on tattoo-wear is bigoted and without warrant, but you're deluding yourself if you don't think it happens.

Size, number, and visibility also matter. If you have a small tattoo hidden beneath your navel, that probably won't cause problems. If your entire arm is covered in ink, that plausibly could affect either employment opportunities or opportunities to advance within your career.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say we likely won't ever see a president of the United States who has tattoos prominently displayed all over his or her face. Is this discriminatory? Sure. Is it without warrant? Sure. Tattoos are merely a form of art, after all. But there's a deeply rooted notion that tattoos look "unprofessional" when displayed too prominently on the body.

I agree. Knowing these stigmas and that they will not change anytime soon, I opted for a tattoo that is easily concealed. It's quite fun making new friends and having a pool day and then, "Myrder!? you have a tattoo?!!? omg I would have never guessed!"
