formal letter/email

can this be more formal?

*********don't mind the information in it. i just wanna know if the format is correct or not.*********

Dear Mr. President

I am writing you this letter on behalf of the International Students resided here in the United States of America. It has come to our mind that we are not legal to acquire a part-time job during our studies here in the United States. I really do not see the reason as to why we are not eligible to do so as we are only looking for a part-time job and not to be a full time employee.

Being a member of the International Student Association I have spent time with other fellow members discussing the thinking the reasons that we should in fact be legible to have a part-time work during our studies here in the United States. We have thought of this case thoroughly and have decided with our members that we should write a letter to inform about the reasons we have to legalize in International students participating in part-time work. First off, it is in our interest of having a part-time because of the experience in the working environment that we will need in future after graduation if we decide to stay here and hopefully be a full-time employee. The other reason we thought of was that it can increase our language abilities and help us understand more of the business environment. Adding to the above we just thought that it would in any way give us a better knowledge of the lifestyle and culture of the people in the United States, which is why we are here in United States for.

The International Student Association is gratefully thankful for the time taking this into consideration.

Sincerely,
Michael

do not take this the wrong way, but you already took a seat in the college from a US student, just because you pay cash. I realize this is not your fault but US school do give foreign student higher preference since they are not eligible student loans and other financial grants therefore are more profit to schools than other students. Now you want to take jobs too...

Way back my roommate in college was from foreign country and at the time you could get a job, but because he was not a citizen he did not have to pay Social Security or Federal taxes so why would the US government want you to have a job, they can not make money off you.

lots of grammar errors.

Dear Mr. President

I am writing you this letter on behalf of all International Students that reside here in the United States of America. I would like to discuss with you the fact that we are not able to legally acquire part-time work during our studies here in the United States.

Being a member of the International Student Association I have spent time with other fellow members discussing this issue and why it would be beneficial for students to be able to obtain work. We have thought of this case thoroughly and have decided with our members to write a letter to inform you about the reasons we would like to legalize International students participating in part-time work.

We believe it is in our collective interest working part time because of the valuable experience we will obtain in the working environment. This valuable experience will remain with us throughout out our professional and personal life. It will also make an easier transition for us if we decide to stay here in the United States and become employed full time.

We also believe that obtaining part time work will help us sharpen our language skills and abilities. This will also lead to a better knowledge of the culture and lifestyles of American people.

The International Student Association is thankful for your time and hope you take these facts into consideration.

Sincerely,
Michael

Recognizing that English is probably not your native language, there are a number of grammatical errors, although it still better written than others here can manage. Also, for a formal letter, you ought to include your last name at the very least (though you may have excluded for the sake of privacy here).

The salutation for a letter to the President of the United States is, "Mr. President:".

Note the ":" at the end.
