Can anyone hear know how the Mild Hybrid Technology works on my X1, when I had my 'V5' back from DVLA it tells me its 'Alternative Fuel'. Please explain.

It has a 48V battery that powers an electric motor in the gearbox or attached to it I believe. This allows the start stop to fiction a bit smarter, allows the car to coast more and also allows you to have a small boost of power (if you have the M Sport) model. So it basically can save a bit of fuel and help the car along on its way. It self charges and regulates so you will fee it on the brakes from time to time when it regens.

the Magna gearbox has a built-in, 14kW (19hp) with 55 Nm torque electric motor that serves as an aid to the main ICU.
It is 48V system and has a service battery in the rear and its not meant to be a stand alone motor.

helps with stop / start, and icu when in the lower torque power band, to aid economy.

Off at a tangent…Talking of MHEV, my 18sd on my registration docs says it’s one, when it plainy isn’t

Picked my X1 up from Aberdeen and drove 300mls home on brand new "tight" engine including heavy traffic/ stop-start through Forfar, Dundee and round Glasgow and 40mls Country roads, Trip Computer recorded 48.5 mpg which was far better than expected for a petrol engine and will possibly improve as it loosens up. You could possibly see what it is doing on the "power display" where the rev-counter should be but I would keep your eyes on the road if I was you. It does save you £5 a year road fund tax.
I have the same spec. engine/MHEV as yours, and six months in to ownership, I now see 52-53MPG on long journeys, so yes, MPG definitely improves as the engines and transmission loosens-up.

Thank you all for taking the time to explain 'Mid Hybrid Technology'.

Given that the 18sd gets as much as 70mpg on a long trip and is averaging 60, I wonder what it would manage with MHEV! Perhaps they’ll add it at some point…🤷🏼
