I loved the X2 the moment I saw it. I was looking to have a sedan like vehicle, but I wanted it shorter like a sports sedan (vs. full size) and at the same time I wanted benefits like a higher ride height for occasional deeper snow clearance and a hatch for the ability to fold down seats and have a lot of useful storage. I loved the front end and front quarter views. The back end looks fine to me but I understand how it doesn’t have a lot of BMW design language. As a first time BMW owner its a great car for me but I understand how it doesn’t really fit with a community that reveres its classic sedan and coupe designs and tolerates a practical SUV as a daily family driver… the X2 (and X4/X6) straddle both worlds and for many BMW fans that means it isn’t suitable for either.
Well said friend. Well articulated.

But... a question. How can you say you love it at first sight but the rear end only looks "fine"? It is 110% borrowed from the X6, if not even more aggressive. She's thicc. I slap her in the ass daily and tell her how nice it is.

I mean I prefer the front end of the X2 but I like the back, I just acknowledge that I don’t think it has the same BMW design language as their other cars so I understand when people say they wish it was different. The whole car is good looking to me or I wouldn’t have bought it. Very excited to be a new BMW owner!

If it was a more cohesive design I would absolutely agree, I like the idea of the coupe/SUV shape but so far the best example in the market is the Audi Q3 SB to my eye. However the fact it’s lower to the ground compared to the std Q3, just like the X2 is compared to the X1, is a turn off for me because at that point you start to nullify the plus points of the SUV.

As a person who has been driving a Subaru Forester (aka a “normal” boxy looking small SUV) for the last 8 years, I’m thrilled to get my X2 when it finally finishes production.

Keeping in mind that I had planned to buy an X1 (in my original post - so this is no way a judgement), the boxy small SUV is so common to see everywhere these days. Whether it’s BMW, Honda, Toyota, Subaru, or whatever. It’s a popular style.

I ordered the X2 because I get all of the same features as the X1 (with the obvious reduction in head space and minor reduction of cargo size). I needed something that is large enough to haul around boxes and misc stuff, it needs to sit higher up so I can get a good view of the road, and it needed to have suitable ground clearance due to weather considerations, and to be able to park in a field filled with dips without causing drama.

I picked the X2 because it looks more like a car but I still get the X1 features that are really important to me. Even better than that, it doesn’t look like a million other things on the road. Would I have been happy if I had just bought the X1, yes. It just didn’t feel as visually interesting and engaging to me.

Oh and also the X1 AND X2 both advertised as having 8.1” ground clearance.
