I was typing a message earlier today, and started to try and tag someone in the editor by typing the at sign and then one letter. The pick list for potential users came up with several user names in strange character sets among the valid users. Are these a result of a database character set change that's in progress for BP Web V2.0, or the results of international SEO spambots creating throwaway accounts?

A few random tagged examples:

Agree those look like bots looking for vulnerabilities rather then a character problem, but it could be a character problem as well. For now I’m going to say bots since they registered have 0 posts and haven’t really visited since

Those were just three random examples. Look at the list of suggested users below when I type a single at sign into the post editor, where I ASSume the character coding makes them alphabetically come up first in the pick list.

If you have SQL access and can wildcard search for a single character in a user name like "%Â%", I'll estimate the over/under at 2,500 accounts with this strange encoding based on the few one-character tag searches that I've randomly tried.....

Ok yes it does look like it's a simple encoding issue with the older mention system, everything is luckily intact with the new beta site. I've retrofitted the fix into the system and it should be a lot better now. there might be some still messed up names however where it looks like bots did that intentionally
