While I agree it's not the best, I'm not sure what you mean by first being a pain. I usually hear complaints about 1-->2 in every bmw going back to the start of time, but that's something you quickly get used to and drive around.
I drove it for a few hours, I had to be mentally focused on making sure I got 1st to 2nd correct so as not to stall, also when changing gear had to double check that it was in place. I'm sure over time I'll get used to it, but for the amount of time I spent with it, I was very certain I didn't want the MT.

On the other hand I drove a 2017 Porsche, I was taken aback how heavy the clutch was, but I immediately was able to adapt and felt I've been driving it for months, same with a Honda (meant Honda not toyota) I drove. I think I went into driving the BMW thinking it would be similar or some positive variation. I was kinda let down tbh
