MagSafe Phone Mount

Hi all, anyone have a good MagSafe phone mount solution for our cars? Maybe something that can suction mount to the idrive or clip on the screen? Or a vent mount that is solid and works on our vents which feel thicker than normal to me.

Appreciate it in advance.

I've got this mount:

Dashboard Mount

I have an older version of the MagSafe part where it uses an official Apple charger, but this seems to be the updated version that has the charger already integrated:

charger

It's been 2 years, and works great. Make sure to use the adhesive tap on the upper part of the mount to secure the lip to the dash, I tried using it without the adhesive and it would (very occasionally) fall from the dash if it heated up in the hot sun when the plastic became more flexible. Zero issues holding my iPhone 15 Pro Max in a carbon fiber MagSafe case.

Appreciate the info. Any photos by chance?

I didn’t get the charger as I prefer a wired charge, but I will say it’s the best phone mount I’ve seen for this car yet.

There’s a little sticky tape thing to peel off to adhere it semi permanently which I didn’t do, and haven’t had any issues with sliding or anything. It comes off once in a while when I pull too hard (I have an aftermarket mag ring on my phone that makes it very sticky to the mount)

It’s at the correct height for viewing without being in the visual line of sight imo.

I ordered one today. Pro clips always makes great products. I actually have their mount in my M2 to mount my tablet for track days. Thank you all for the feedback!

Sorry, didn't see this till now. I'll see if I can snap a few later. I will say though, that while it's really convenient, it does protrude from the dash more than I originally thought it would. It doesn't bother me, but might bother other people.

If I can find a good used M2 Comp locally, that may actually be my next car after the X1. If not, I'm going to see if I have G87 money lol.

That’s the only part I really don’t love about it. But I think I’ll get used to it. I ordered the same set up. You have with the magnetic charger.

Couldn’t take a photo of the phone on the mount since I use the phone to capture the image.

Very nice loader with boost and firm magnet.
Can be securely fixed at the air outlet.

I noticed this type and many others like it don’t really fit on the X1 since the vent is abnormal from other types of vents.

At least in my experience and trying out about 6 diff types before I settled on the proclip mount

I’ve used the ESR mounts in my Subarus for the last year and a half, and they’ve worked extremely well. We haven’t used one in our new car, but I would expect that they would be fine as long as we can sort out the placement on the vent.

That’s what I noticed. The front of the vent is like fatter than the vent blade itself… weird.

The ESR is pretty accommodating. I like that it has a little “leg” that helps to brace the mount so it isn’t dependent on the vent slats which helps stability and seems to decrease stress on the vent. I don’t have the exact model that kenrok1 has. I have the ESR HaloLock and like I said, it’s been flawless. The only complaint I have had is that I don’t like the blue light on the side. A bit of electrical tape over it fixed the issue for me.

What I didn’t like about the ESR mounts is that the chargers weren’t officially licensed by Apple and so even though they could charge at a max of 15W, they only charged iPhones at a max of 7.5W. It may have changed now that Apple has adopted the Qi2 standard, but I didn’t like the fact that ESR marketed it like all phones would charge at 15W. You had to really dig into the fine print to find out iPhones were crippled.

I have no explanation for that, but I have personally had no issues with fast charging with either my old iPhone 14 Pro or my current 16 Pro (or my husband’s 14 Pro Max or 16 Pro Max). I have it plugged into a 30W Anker car charger using a USB-C to C cable. Most of my trips are within 10 miles of home, and my battery is always significantly more charged than when I leave the house.

Yeah, with Apple adopting the Qi2 standard in the past year or so, I believe you can take advantage of the full 15W now. When I was looking for a mount in early ‘23 they hadn’t adopted the standard yet and Apple limited non-licensed charged to 7.5W. ESR purposely making this info about their chargers obscure at the time left a bad taste in my mouth, so personally I won’t support their products.

hmm I don't know how I could tell, but I will say its plenty fast and keeps full charge- unlike our built in charger... its one option I would've skipped if given the choice because I knew it was puny. If I put my phone in it and drive for 30 min I can usually count on there being 1% less of a charge than when I started ~ so I don't bother with it at all.

edit - I will say this though, I use a good cigarette lighter adapter to power it, figuring whatever car I'm in if it has USB available it's probably just minimal, so that probably helps too
