What do you do when you valet?

I’ve been reading the manual, and I see that there’s no valet mode on the X1/X2. I don’t know if it’s something specific to the vehicle or an iDrive 9 thing.

For those of you that valet park your car, do you log out, PIN protect your profile, something else, or do you choose to do nothing?

I rarely valet park, but I’d like to be prepared for when it eventually happens.

The only way I’ve been able to restrict any access is through sharing the digital key.

This isn’t a realistic option for parking in a paid garage or a valet service, but it’s the only option I’ve managed to discover.

You don’t think that locking the screen would work to at least keep people out of my info? (Tap on the profile pic on the top right - Profile settings - Lock Screen - enter the PIN)

SOaB! I was overly concerned w the key handling that this didn’t even occur to me … but low and behold it’s another thing they’ve gone and taken away https://u11.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=2059805

To be fair, the 2025 X3 has ID9 and doesn’t have valet mode either. (Or if it does, there’s nothing about it in the owner’s manual.)

Hopefully as ID9 ends up in more vehicles there will be more features added across the models using it through OTA updates.

Hello,

MY23 X1's with iDrive 8 should still have a full functional "Valet Parking Mode"

All other X1/X2/X3's with iDrive 9 have a bootleg, watered-down of "Valet Parking Mode" called: "Lock Screen"?

I'll include some screenshots down below from the owners manual how to use and activate this feature, but from what I have seen and experienced, the "lock screen" function gets real old, real fast. Basically you have to input your 4 - digit PIN EACH AND EVERY time you start the vehicle with your profile - even if use the key to which the profile is assigned too and I find that to be annoying. I'm not sure if anything has changed recently, but that is what I recall.

I guess you can set a PIN and lock the screen only when you want (e.g., when valet parking) and not use the feature when not needed? I don't know - I think Valet Parking Mode was a very good safety feature; not sure what happened with iDrive 9??

Anyways, here are a few other alternatives

1. My friend lives across the street from the University that he has now graduated from, and so his "Home Address" is the school's address and so if we steal his BMW and say "Take me Home" - it's going to take us to the middle of the campus - and that's because his "Home Address" is the school's address

2. Apple CarPlay/Android Auto users - keep in mind that if your mobile devices is (are) not in the car or is paired up, then none of your apps will load (incl. Navigation Apps like Maps, Waze, etc.), thus hiding your sensitive/private information.

Anyways, I hope some of the information provided can help someone!

Lastly, I believe anyone that has their BMW ID linked to the car can potentially track the location of the vehicle, lock/unlock the vehicle, and potentially start the vehicle (Remote Engine Start)

Y'all stay safe out there, and to anyone who might be potentially selling their car, please don't forget to DELETE YOUR GARAGE from the Homelink (The three buttons under the Rear - View Mirror) - I can't tell you how many people lease return or sell their car and forget to delete their garage from the rear view mirror!!
TIP: Pressing and holding Garage buttons 1 and 3 should erase all saved garage links!
