Good luck and hopefully I new chapter opens.
I was working in retail finance (banking) for 8 years from a teller up to branch manager. I got packaged twice, each time being offered positions but turning them down to turn over a new leaf. My new leaf this time around was a whole new industry, automotive because I have a passion for cars in general. I'm still not sure if its the job for me (I'm a finance manager at an Audi Dealership) but it was the perfect opportunity to try and align my passion with my work. I wish you the best as you search for the next chapter of your career. |

So the owner basically had his wife do the dirty work as they both could not handle the fact that you were outdoing yourself in your role. I have read enough of your posts to know you did an excellent job at what was expected of you and that the boss let go of women he shagged and could not handle keeping on staff (espec. with his wifey there.) In the end, you leave a very uncomfortable and biased work envt.
Spend time with your son. See what other ventures arise in the meantime. I am sure that you will find work - that pays more and is more intellectually rewarding. All the best brother....

I appreciate the support guys, means so much. I'm thinking about getting into the auto industry one way or another as I just love being around cars. I'm in a positive mood, wife is supportive and not busting my balls (yet). As for my son, he loves it that I'm home more and plan on doing things together since he has spring break this coming week. Tonight I'll put in for unemployment as the most FL offers is $275/week. Better than nothing right?

Spend time with your son, you'll never get that special time back again and it could really strengthen the bond for the rest of your lives. Job loss, when you think about it, like many things in life is ultimately a temporary phenomenon and sounds like the situation was toxic and untenable, which is not a good space to be in longer term, no matter what.

It sucks that you lost your job, however it's better that you lost it now than later. I've seen too many family businesses end with department of labor involvement. Actually was just talking with my dad about an incident today. Shit sucks at first, but it's better than working for nothing...
Spend some time with your son and wife, but, and I don't mean this to be dickish; don't get too comfortable. Stay on your toes, and stay peeled for opportunities. You said you want to go into the auto industry. Take a look at Tesla. With the Model 3 reservations starting soon, and Model X production ramping up, their is a need for some more man power, in the showrooms specifically. |

I'm a firm believer that all things happen for a reason. My last position was "eliminated" while I was in the burn unit. No lie. Completely unethical and probably illegal but I'm not the "ill sue you" type. It was hard to take at first, being pretty down while also being in great pain, but keeping a positive outlook (also a great girl in my life who is a recruiter haha) was key for me. I ended up in the role of a life time with a company who's owner is looking to retire and wants me to take over basically. If my douchebag old boss hadn't gotten rid of me because he was afraid I wouldn't be able to do my job again (completely unfounded but he never even tried to find out) I never would have found my dream job. Good luck man, you sound like you have the right attitude and family around you to support you! Btw I tried to appreciate MK Sixers comment and kept tapping cause it never showed up but then said I appreciated it 6 times!

F30lolz - use the next couple weeks to decompress from the stress of that job. I speak from personal experience - nothing like a great night sleep and then waking up in the morning with every ounce of that stress lifted...

Well regardless of whether you are collecting a steady income or not, I think you have a lot of self confidence otherwise you would have been ashamed to even start this thread.....so good on ya.
I am in a toxic work environment myself and after taking the abusive leadership here for almost 2 years, I decided to push back and they offered me a pretty sweet severance package to not to press the issue anymore and most probably get the "head mofo" in some serious hot water. So them giving me some serious bank for not working here and not being belittled in public anymore by my boss......that's PRICELESS! So what does it mean for me......I retire - retire at age 52.

I am authorized to be a Lyft driver as I did that for a few Fridays last year and the money was decent. So I could do it full time if push comes to shove. However, that'll be at the point of no return. Had a walk in interview and as expected, it was a contract job so nothing there. This week I should find out about unemployment but main goal is to find something before I get my first check. I am not ashamed that I would be collecting and I know it's not living off of the system type, it's just that I would like to be somewhere I would be appreciated/respected and not micro-managed.

Sorry about that dude.
Oh well, more freedom on your hand to enjoy life. I got laid off back in Jan 2008. Took a month off relaxed. Then got a better job.

Yeah this past week has been good. My wife's Mustang needed front brakes and new spark plugs (already approaching 50k miles) so I paid for the parts ($95) and had them installed for free by her cousin. So I saved some coin, though I promised my son and daughter (step daughter for those keeping score at home) that I would take them Friday afternoon to watch Batman vs Superman. Can't wait
