It's crazy there is no frunk under that huge front end. We need something cool like the one on the lightning pickup. But looking good otherwise as a replacement for my x5

I generally agree with Doug's reviews but could personally do without the "Doug Score" at the end. He's a big guy and actually looks small standing next the iX. I've always perceived the iX to look smallish but I'm guessing it's much larger in the flesh. I should know soon, a demo is on it's way to our local dealership.

So annoying that I stoped watching after the 'crystal' seat controls. EV has a long way to go until mainstream acceptance. Good that BMW will keep on manufacturing petrol engines, as the current EV offerings are a bunch of smoke and mirrors to hide a inferior product.

Lol he's commenting on how EVs lack transmission tunnels which in turn provide extra rear legroom. But he's forgetting that is only applicable to sedans as SUVs have had flat rear floors forever.
Anyhow, there is certainly good and bad to this product but I commend BMW for being the first to the market to really compete with the Tesla X on size/price. The iX is very non-traditional BMW. Compared to our family X5, this does not feel remotely like it is from the same brand. I'm sure it has its appeal and will sell well enough. Public charging continues to be an issue for non-Tesla EVs IMO. Big SUVs are routinely put to use for road trips, and the current non-Tesla public chargers just seem too unreliable and sparse to count on. Range isn't a lot on these cars. With those wheels, an avg speed of 75mph, and A/C on this won't go anywhere near 300 miles. The X5/7 get significantly more range, fill up in 5 minutes, and are far less expensive.

I drove one last week, not to buy but my dealer just gave me one to take for the hour. He ran me through it as well.
I'm not a SUV guy. In fact picking up my new G82 this Friday. I can say however I was impressed with the drive experience I had. The product is good, not perfect, but nothing ever is. Not going to comment on the looks as we all feel differently about what area. I have no doubt our next purchase will be an EV but till then I will love the new G82.

Why would you find that annoying? As for being an "inferior product", iX is one of the best EVs out there, and in fact some reviewers even call it one of the best cars out there, period. There is nothing which needs to hide. |

My X5 rear does not have a flat floor, there is an inch or 2? elevation in the central tunnel area. Not as big a tunnel as a sedan, but still less comfortable for anyone sitting in the middle. Quote:

He missed the two best quirks, the musical seats and the interior selfie camera.

iX is actually more efficient than Model X, a car with its ground up EV platform. In Bjorn's data sheet, Model X LR uses 236Wh/km and iX M50 uses 230 Wh/km. Quite an amazing feat using an ICE derived platform. iX is also quieter and rides much better. I think i4 and iX has proved BMW's engineering is right up there with the very best in EV. They divide the car price over the range of one charge/one gas tank, and then compare - WTF? Does not even make sense to me. I was saying that you would save on gas price after you purchased the car. I am not looking at a saving for the total ownership. I would not have considered iX if I am on a budget. And I am not buying an EV to save money. |

1) it's on a new, bespoke platform and not based on any existing ICE model. BMW even went as far as saying that the reason they did NOT base the iX on the X5 architecture was to give their designers a clean sheet to start from. 2) back to back comparisons between the iX and my e-tron show the iX to be more efficient in terms of economy, and practically next-level in terms of refinement. Same goes for iX vs EQC and i-Pace. BMW engineers have done a stellar job with the iX. The ride comfort and quality are near-Rolls Royce levels. 3) why is everyone so obsessed with the frunk. I have one in the e-tron and I have not used it once since getting the car. It's not particularly useful size wise and it's annoying to get to. I mean who really wants to pop the hood to put stuff away.

Anyhow, the iX clearly suits what you're looking for in a daily driver. Good for you. As for my parents, given their monthly drives between Seattle and Vancouver BC, the inconvenience of an EV is a hindrance. My mother is on her 4th X5 and wants nothing to do with how the iX looks either...

Although it still looks odd, it looks better than I originally thought. Not to sound old fashioned, the interior is nice but it will take some time before I'm ready to commit to an all electric vehicle. SUV or car.

Well, that review is what I needed... moving on from the iX. There are just too many compromises and poor design choices. BMW is going to have to relearn some of its past mistakes with reducing buttons in their cars. Driving a car where you have to take your eyes off the road to adjust common functions is NEVER a good choice. You can use voice commands but that's generally a bad idea when there are multiple people in the car.

LOL I feel like most of the people hating on this car (outside of the exterior looks), is just finding reasons to convince themselves why an electric car is not good
