You're wrong. Up until a couple of months ago, the US model was scheduled to start production in November 2022 with sales in January-February 2023. A month ago, BMW Blog reported "may not come to the US, at least not right away". Right now, BMW official sources are saying something like "currently have no plans". While I'm saying that at some point in the last 2 months BMW did make new plans: the plans not to offer that model at all.

Great article in the WSJ recently how the writer spent more time charging her EV on a 4 day road than sleeping. https://www.wsj.com/articles/i-rente...ng-11654268401

BMW boss Zipse recently said again that they would like to continue producing and selling vehicles with ICE for a long time. Probably simply because too much investment has not yet been recouped and too rapid job cuts in this area would be politically sensitive in the region.
Here in Europe, however, with the constantly tightening CO2 limits and high penalties, they have no choice and must sell more and more pure EVs. You in the US, on the other hand, have fallen far behind in terms of environmental developments and legislation thanks to Trump. So an ideal market to make some money out of the old technology. I think it's that simple. |

According from a friend a BMW, they were never planning on bringing the iX1 to the US because the range is equivalent to an i3 and at the price point it wouldn't sell.

iX1
I heard the reason was because they didn't want to hurt the sales of the iX.

Battery Supply?
Makes sense. With a limited battery supply, it makes sense to prioritize units with the highest profit margin. Looks like BMW's U.S. suppler is looking at December as a battery production start date- as a best case scenario.
Drop the ball, lose the game. |

As I noted that in the other thread iX1 would have put another BMW in the garage when this i3 lease ends as the last of 4 i3's we have owned or leased among several other BMW's. (Anyone remember The Circuit?) Early '23 timing was spot on too and am as excited as everyone else seems to be in the more reserved styling direction. Spent time with the iX and i4 and they are too big, costly, and lack what I value BMW for. For all of my early investment in the BMW i brand I never deemed worthy of a product survey or focus group invite. ID.4 or xC40 Recharge here I come. |
