That's crazy! The wait time for a Rav4 Hybrid here in Hawaii is about 18 months, and I thought that was bad. Ours get shipped to us directly from Japan though, North America Rav4's are built in Kentucky and Ontario. From what I've read they have a shortage of panoramic sunroofs right now and one plant halted production for 6 days due to lack of components.

My dealer (would have been my third car with them) heroically offered "we sell only at MSRP" but when I checked the lease rates they had jacked up the money factor from 0.00185 to 0.00225, equivalent to $1,000 extra in their pockets. Sorry no thank you.

my CA told me that 9 out of 10 of their customers paid cash for their new BMWs.... including an Asian lady who literally tried to pay with cash, as in 600 $100 bills, for her new 330i.

9 out of 10....purchasers? Because a vast majority of BMWs are leased.

From reading other sections of the forum it seems that the entry-level BMW cars are mostly leased but the higher end models are bought outright.

I know that at least in Hawaii, the majority of BMW’s are leased. I lease mine for my business as the tax write offs are greater incentive for me, though leasing here almost always has a higher total cost compared to purchasing. Mercedes I believe is the same, but Lexus tends to be more purchased than leased and is generally driven by an older demographic with the exception of their IS models.

Got mine at MSRP in NYC, he was telling me he could "markup the price and sell it to one of the many people interested in the car". My bet is that's all BS and salesman tactics, but I took the deal so I didn't lose the car. He wouldn't budge on any of the optional fees either, so I guess it just depends on where you go!

If the car you're interested sits in their inventory for the next few days, I'd tell them you'd be willing to pay MSRP and see if they take your offer!

We have orders available which I'm told by multiple dealers is the best in the country.

Please do not pay over sticker for these as you will be severely underwater on it in a year or so

Similar tactic with the dealer I originally ordered from (X1 arrived damaged, bought from another dealer) where the agreement was MSRP, but they don’t tell you that’s only if you finance with them. I later saw on their website a $1000 markup for “Cash or Use My Bank.”

Since it arrived damaged, didn’t get to the point of seeing if they would really try and charge me the $1k to pay cash. The dealer I ended up buying from didn’t play that game, just MSRP for cash (even though both dealers owned by the same parent company.)

I just purchased an x1 fully loaded. BMW has no incentives other than military or recent grad, no loyalty rebates or anything which annoyed me quite a bit. I have purchased 5 BMWs in the last 2 years. The dealer had no option than to cut into their margin to be able to do anything for me. They did reduce the price by a modest amount which I appreciated. They also added all weather mats and upgraded my maintenance plan at no charge to me. I would never pay more than sticker price.

A number of dealers try adding MDA pricing to "M" models, but this is an M-light vehicle. I ordered my X1m35i (creating an order may make a difference in some areas), and not only didn't pay any MDA, but got a $1,500 discount. I am a multi-BMW vehicle owner, so that may have something to do with it, but whereas a lot of dealers for various brands were charging MDA in the past year, nearly none are now. Try connecting with either an "Internet" sales manager or the general sales manager - be nice - and see if things don't work out differently.

X1 shows 7% of MSRP. Looks like there is also a $500 loyalty and $500 lease cash incentive.

Also, if you use BMWFS, they don't mark up the rates at all. There's no hidden fees or add ons either.
