installed riss racing cdv
Daniel from riss racing installed their cdv onto my car the other night. What a difference it has made shifting into 1st and from 1st to 2ncd. It feels like a proper manual now. a must get install for all manual folk out there. thanks riss racing for the quick install

It's a lot cheaper to buy a stock valve from the dealer and remove the valve internals yourself. The stock valve is under $10.
All you need to do is push the appropriately sized allen key into the small end of the valve and tap it with a hammer and the valve internals will be drifted out leaving the valve clear and unrestricted. It's very, very easy. This is all Riss racing do when they modify theirs and they charge you $20 extra for doing it. |

Does changing/removing the CDV void the warranty on the car, transmission, or clutch?

I have driven manual cars before Ford Focus and Audi A4 in Europe.. But I am somewhat new to this 'vague' feeling that guys are talking about. I didn't catch it, may be I forgot it driving auto in usa.. I got my 128i 2 days ago.
can someone explain a bit more ?

Yeah, I've had my 128 for a week and hadn't noticed anything different about shifting. Mind you, I haven't tried to really open the car up yet, but I still don't have any problems performing a smooth shift from 1 to 2. Then again, I don't know what it'd be like without the CDV so I have nothing to compare to.

EDIT: to clarify, I think I understand the "vague" feeling, but it doesn't bother me enough to do something about it. |

I slightly notice it. I'm still in the break in period all be it.
The vagueness that people are describing refers to the feel that they get from the clutch pedal. The return rate on the clutch pedal is very slow. This makes it difficult for some people to shift between 1/2 when they are driving hard. Do some research on the forum under the DIY section or search CDV. It looks to me like BMW has been doing this for a while. I noticed it on a 2001 E39, my 90 E34 didn't have this feeling at all. I'm still up in the air whether or not to replace it. I'm putting in a new SSK for my car from UUC. I really dont like the plastic feeling I'm getting from the shifter. Then maybe do the CDV mod. |

Ok, so i've got a 125i manual, and i'm finding the gear changes a bit rough overall.. was looking at an audi s3 which had a MUCH smoother gearbox. Just wondering if there's anything that can smoothen out the gear changes, or are the BMW boxes just a bit rough?
Have missed a few gears here and there when driving hard, guess the CDV would be a good option (assuming this is the reason and not my dodgy gear changing . would the SSK improve the feel at all, or just shorten the throw?
