don't they charge for DCT anyways? How could it threaten profits? If DCT was included then I could see a problem, but since they charge for auto/dct transmissions in all their cars then I don't think it would be a loss for BMW. Maybe I'm missing something but isn't DCT already an off teh shelf part? Would it take that much expense to upgrade the current DCT trans in the 135i for the 1M? IMO offering the DCT trans for the 1M will only help attract more customers.
edit: only real reason i could see by not offering DCT is that they haven't really had much time to test the DCT trans in the 1M compared to the manual. Last edited by Mprofiler; 08-28-2010 at 04:07 PM.. |

Guys, the pro DCT group is just asking for the choice. They're in no way cramping the stickshifters' style. And the "manual=the manly choice-argument" has been beaten to death on every automotive forum on the planet.

I wonder if the decision was also influenced by their desire to keep the 1///M from stepping on the ///M3's toes. In terms of track times it will not hang with a DCT equipped competition pkg ///M3. Fine by me... I want involvement, feel and driving pleasure. Not to beat xxxx by 2 tenths of a second on xxxx track.

You try sitting in Balt-Washington DC traffic with a stick. Especially beach traffic or in the afternoon...2-4 hrs of sitting there, crawling, or just sitting.
All the people I've seen and know with MT Evos, STis, Honda Civics Sis, all either work locally, don't really get into traffic, or drive at night. Manual is fun for buzzing around |

I'm sure there are plenty of reasons to want DCT, but if this car is as great as BMW makes it out to be, does it really matter? The only people who will truly be upset are those who don't know how to drive a manual.

great news (for me) since i plan to buy used someday this will make finding the perfect 1M even easier. it was a bitch trying to find a e92 in manual. even the new m3 is hard to find 6MT.
this will seperate the men from the boys |

Even the men are slightly faster with the DCT than with the manual.
Edited to add: What's up with this simplistic assumption that if you like the DCT, you're evidently terrible at operating a manual? Last edited by Future M1 owner; 08-28-2010 at 05:31 PM.. |

It's just means fewer people who you know will be able to drive your car. Has worked with my manual MINI for over 6 years.

How many of you absolutely just wouldn't purchase the 1M if you couldn't get it with a DCT though? I guess many drivers who want an auto would still buy it with a manual, but could be wrong.
