Good to know, thanks for the heads up. I’ll post my experience after trying!

I am in Kawasaki and awaiting my X1 MSport 20i. They say a feb build date so fingers crossed it will happen soon.

Where in Japan are you? There's a BMW tuner there that I visit whenever I'm in Japan, Studie. They may have accessories for your car in the works. I've only been to the Yokohama and Kobe locations, but they always have some cool cars in the lot or on the lift. ASM is famous for the Honda S2000's, but I believe they also do stuff for BMW as well.

Was the release of the X1 delayed compared to Europe and North America? I still don't see the builder on the BMW Japan website.

I got an early allocation as a hook-up from BMW Japan. I have all the sales material but they haven’t updated the site as officially released yet.

Added a padded headrest from my Volvo to the X1. Not as padded as I needed, but does help! Posted photos in this thread:

You're right, the vent phone holder I had didn't have a long enough bite to grab the vent. HOWEVER, I def. like the location of having it on the vent. It's right at arms bent length, will charge faster plugged in (wireless charger is useless esp if using waze/google maps), may block the vent but doesn't cover the screen at all or the drinks in the cupholder. Will also stop me from forgetting my phone in the wireless charging dock which I seem to do VERY frequently since it's not plugged in and in an obvious location. Would def. recommend a vent phone holder, will post pictures when I get a chance.

Proclip USA has the correct phone mount listed on their website now but not in stock yet. I’ll be ordering one as well as the MagSafe mount soon

What are you trying to display by using a phone mount that doesn't display in iDrive through CarPlay/Android Auto?

Nothing in specific. But I do text and drive (shhhh) or at least grab my phone to check email/texts pretty often. Also like to play/set/adjust gps things via the app as it's faster. When I place it in the wireless dock, it's just too far to easily reach/access, and I always forget it's there when I get out of the car.

For those keen for a vent mount for your phones, I use a wireless magsafe charger that I am fond of and will likely get the new version of it that has built-in cooling (phone tends to run hot as it is in the sun when driving so the cooling feature will be quite useful).

This is what I'm looking at getting:
https://www.esrgear.com/products/hal...ith-cryoboost/

I did have an issue with the vent mounting though as I have horizontal vents and it wasn't very stable so I had to get something like this also:

Which may also be required for the X1 with it's thick vents.

The ESR mounts aren’t official MagSafe licensed products, so they only charge at a max of 7.5W.
That’s why I’m getting the pro clip system where I can use the actual Apple MagSafe charger. You buy the base that clips in to the dash (not the vent), and then buy the mount for your phone. It’ll cost a little more, but to me it’s a far more secure mount, and the A/C keeps the phone cool.

Oh bugger I didn't know. Charging on mine is fine but if I can do 15W instead of 7.5W I'd rather do that and will have to look for a MagSafe licensed charger. I'm not liking the look of the Pro Clip system and it's probably not even available here in Aus but am sure I'll find an alternative. Thanks for the info.

Oh for the A/C cooling, I've noticed with my current one even with the A/C on full blast the phone still tends to get hot. The charger seems to block the A/C from blowing onto the phone so I was thinking something like the ESR one would be useful but hopefully I can find a similar system with full wattage charging available for the phone.

Brodit is the manufacturer of the mounts, you can go to their website and see who the authorized dealer is in your country. I prefer it because it doesn’t hang off your vent, so you can still freely adjust the vent to aim where you like. And with the X1 having only that one massive vent in the center, I don’t want to lose that functionality. In previous cars I could mount it to the passenger vent and still have my vent to aim at my face. Just something to consider.

If you’re dead set on getting a vent mount though, it’s probably easiest to get a MagSafe charger holder with the vent clip, and then replace the part that attaches to the vent with one that has the hook like the ESR mount. I was looking into this as an alternative since all the vent mount ones I’ve seen for the MagSafe charger don’t have a vent clip that will fit the X1. All the ball heads should be the same size and you can kind of just put together different bits.

Seriously, use Siri to read/dictate your texts.

Not feasible when Siri can’t handle the Hawaiian language (which is used a lot here), in my case. Also why I turn off audio prompts for nav guidance, as it absolutely butchers the language into something unrecognizable. Siri also has issues with Japanese when the phone is set to English (my primary language, but need Japanese for work 50% of the time). It’s not often I need to do this while driving, but when I do, I really need to.

But also, that wireless charger is next to useless for me as it doesn’t charge fast enough to keep up.

is spare tire 185/80/17 in size?

can full size tire of 225/55/18 fit in the same space under trunk floor? 185 vs. 225, which means just 40mm which is only one and half inch more space needed.

I really want a full size spare tire not a temporary tiny spare tire like BMW equipped.

if anyone has spare(no pun intended, yes?) time to measure spare tire space, please let know result?

thank you much for the help!

I don’t think a full size spare would fit, you’re looking at closer to 100mm difference in height. The spare is a 135/80/R17. I’ve attached some photos since I just picked up the car from being ceramic coated. The can of Invisible Glass in the photo is actually a bit larger than can fit under the cover, by maybe 1/2 inch or so. The rear portion of the cover has slightly less clearance than the portion that flips up. There’s also not much room for a larger diameter tire as it takes up almost the entire bottom except where the tools are stored.

Seriously. There are other things i mentioned than texting. Also, if using another language or non-imessage messaging app, Siri isn’t useful.

Ok, well I guess that's super-important to do while driving . Hopefully, it's just you that gets hurt when you crash...

Well I assume that the Styrofoam tool holder is removable, so maybe a larger diameter wheel could fit if you stored the jack and the tools another way? But the tire width would certainly be an issue if you have the 19" wheels, with 245 width tires.

Thank you very much for the pictures.

I mistakently thought that it was 185. Since the tiny spare is only 135, there's no way that a 225 standard 18" tire will fit in there.

The tire is almost touching on the front and back edges though, so larger isn’t an option unless you’re trying to fit an oval tire lol.
