From what I understand it's a little bit of both. I've seen both being conducted which is interesting. Wonder if one's more successful then the other.

As long as the results are desirable (and accurate in this case) then hopefully this testing process will help people in need.

I just got this done this AM - main thing is IT ISN'T AS BAD AS THAT PICTURE LOOKS. I gotta admit I was cringing, but it was better than expected. Not fun, but I've had a lot worse - but no, that doesn't mean cystoscopy (and don't look that one up if you DK what it is). At least I was first in line so I didn't have to hang around the plague-crowd. All thanks to my admin being totally useless - cleaning lady has been gross sick for several weeks, but our complaints about it went unheard (several of us had been locking her out of our offices over it). She finally popped positive, and I have very fragile family so I wanted to be cautious. Not a very high bar to get auth for testing - basically that direct contact, plus my usual batch of vague 'is it allergy or is this one actually a cold' symptoms. Also pays to remember that as soon as you get it done, you are formally quarantined until the results come back (unless you are a congressman) - may want to make plans or arrangements if you carry a caseload or have ongoing projects at work. |

Now I mentioned when I posted this that my wife had something similar done for chronic migraine treatment. It's called a Sphenopalatine Ganglion Block. They went back as far as the picture showed...but it was also X-Ray guided. That didn't work, now she is on to Botox. 39 injections mixed between the scalp, neck, shoulders. I cringed watching them hit her temples and the spots behind her ears.

Yeah I wasn't really looking very close, but it can't have been as far back as that pic - is shows right near the earlobe, which on me is about 5" (or most of a standard swab handle). I bet they just got the scale off on the drawing to show more detail. Subjectively it is like having a sort of rough swipe of the back of your nose. Main thing is, don't put yourself in danger out of concern, it really isn't that big a deal. I wouldn't want to do it every morning, but it isn't as bad as, say, having to drive a Prius for a DD.
And hope the Botox works - I've had several patients that did really well with that. Also some that got a lot out of alpha-stim (more as an augmentation, not really a primary Tx). She must be tough - I almost put it in gear and drove off, and that was a swab; if it were a needle I'd have had to be strapped down. |

Yup...I've had it twice since Thanksgiving. Knowing its coming is half the battle.
Negative both times...as it went through my house. Wife lost her sense of smell...giving me the green light to SBD her for getting covid in the first place. |

A lot of tests are now using mid-turbinate collection, which is not nearly as bad. Here the swab just goes kind of up to the top of your nostril where you are just starting to feel some discomfort. They twirl it a few times, then switch to the other nostril and repeat. The whole thing takes about 10 seconds. We get tested this way at work about every other week.

I have seen a couple of videos on the internet it is funny and scary at the same time. I would rather stay home and be safe instead of undergoing a swab test.

Though they did threaten us with expulsion if we missed our twice a week testing and were VERY proud that they sent over 1000 kids to disciplinary action for missing it... |

I just had an oral swab before a surgery last year, thankfully no brain tickle. Then again almost a year in and I still think the COVID scare is blown way out of proportion.

I get it done weekly and our undergrad students twice weekly... Last test was yesterday, results in less than 12 hours. Our medical school handles all the tests locally.

I had it done in July for work - not nearly as bad as I thought it would be. It's only in there for a second. It kind of semi iched/tickled for 10-15 minutes after was the worst part.
I would do it again - and probably will have to.

I've only done the test once when my gf was feeling kind of sick before xmas and she wanted to get it done just to make sure. It was literally nothing, it wasn't even a real qtip. It was super thin and didn't go in my nose far at all. I have to imagine the tests were much worse before because theres no way this could bother anyone. That being said finding a place, scheduling it and then still having to wait in a room full of people wasn't much fun. I was listening to a podcast the other day that had some doctor on talking about super basic paper strip tests that would give you results right there in a couple of minutes like a pregnancy test. He claimed that while they were not as accurate as the lab test it was still very accurate like +99% or something like that. No idea how much is true and how much is bs since the guy WAS trying to get funding for these types of test. However it makes sense to me. If you could just buy a pack of 30 of these on amazon for $19.99. Use it before you have any big gathering with family or whatever, even at 99% or 90% accuracy I would imagine it would reduce the spread significantly. |

Brain implant? Unless of course you think that is what they are doing with the q-tip...

Im not an anti vaxxer or "cOvId iS fAkE" gang by any means but the testing logistics in NYC is horrendous.
Waited 2+ hours in the rain, outdoors, on sunday to test (wife had to do a rapid before returning to work). They could only test 6 people at a time, and afterwards, there was a 15 min cooldown before they could see the next batch... so in total it was almost 20-30 mins to test 6 people... in freaking new york CITY. Rapid's came back negative. PCRs were supposed to return within 48 hours but still nothing. Don't even let me get started on the vaccine rollout... |

Does not look fun. How do they know when they hit paydirt? If not hitting on anything to stop...how accurate could it be?
