i enjoy traveling alone sometimes. At least when going alone, you dont have to take care of your partner and go where ever and when ever you want.

Well after all the input from you guys, this definately sounds like something I want to do.

Anyone have any suggestions on where to go?

A friend's father-in-law hiked Mount Kilimanjaro and said it was the most amazing experience of his life. Something about Africa is appealing to me... but the thought of relaxing on a beach in the South Pacific seems real nice too.

I've been to 38 U.S. states, 38 countries, and been on six of the seven continents. I've soloed through New Zealand and Australia, west coast of South America and the Carribean, Canary Islands, and the Baltic States. I've gone single on two safaris in Kenya but that was with a group. My brother was able to go with me to Antarctica which avoided the 50% single supplement. Most of my stateside travels have been solo as well. I love to travel but quite frankly, I'm tired of going by myself and wish I had someone to travel with...or stay at home with for that matter.

nothing wrong with "quality" time with yourself. i go on a mini-vacatin weekend from time to time on my own. i can do as i wish without being on anyone's schedule or their agenda. i often bring a new book to read and my ipod and im good to go

Man with all the miles you've covered quite frankly I'm surprised you haven't stumbled upon that special someone yet. Are you seriously looking? It can't be that difficult.

I have not taken a holiday alone but it truly wouldn't bother me if i chose to do so. My friends wonder how I'm able to take a road trip/ eat lunch alone or do whatever, but I enjoy it. It also helps that I'll start chatting it up with anybody and if I get good feedback, awesome but if it's negative; well no harm done I just move on. I say go for it, you'll get to do whatever you want whenever you want, how cool is that!

I've done Amsterdam by myself before and had a great time. It's also relatively inexpensive to go to due to it being a large airline hub.

If you'd like some other suggestions, send me a pm.

A cruise sounds relaxing but I want to avoid the American tourista spots. Still thinking about the South Pacific/Asia or maybe something in Africa.

Whoever mentioned Amsterdam, I would love to go, but that is a pit of temptation I don't want to revisit in my life

Solo Vacation=the only way to go!!

Just got back from Europe. Was there for 3 weeks all by myself. First time I've ever taken a solo vacation. The best experience ever. Italy, France and Spain. I highly recommend San Sebastian in the Basque Country (Spain). Incredible city with everything you could imagine.

If you want something relaxing, tropical, relatively cheap, SE Asia isn't a bad idea. You'll meet plenty of people that's for sure. Just watch out for the lady boys....

Costa Rica is another area that might interest you, or even Argentina. SA is beautiful!!

If you want something educational, filled with history, Europe will be a great opportunity. Rent a race car and bring it to the ring.

+1 more for camping.

Camping takes you away from civilization and is quite relaxing. It's a great little escape.

Back packing in Europe, Thailand or other SE Asian countries.

How about this something different from the norm? How about volunteering to help in some foreign country? Maybe check your local Red Cross? That would be interesting and you could meet tons of people.

http://www.redcross.org/article/0,10...2_6916,00.html

While it may not sound like the most fun thing in the world, it's an experience you probably won't ever forget.

There are so many options, narrowing them down is a matter of what you want to do. Do you want to ski, relax, go sight-seeing, scuba diving, camping? It all comes down to how you want to spend your time and finding the best places to do said activities.

Of all the things I've done, there are a few places that stand out to me:

1) Australia: It doesn't matter where you are - Sydney, Queens, Melbourne - they're all great places in their own ways. I've actually been there several times (once to Sydney, multiple times to Melbourne...Queens being included on one of those trips) due to family, and I must say that I would strongly consider living there one day. It's that nice. Great people, clean surroundings. Just a nice place to be.

2) London: I've been there twice, and both times have been great. There's plenty to see, plenty to do. It's a nice break away from American society if that's what you're looking for. I strongly recommend going there.

3) Las Vegas: Need I explain? Sights, shows, gambling...it's all common knowledge.

4) Grand Canyon: BEST 6 DAY TRIP EVER! Without a question, the rafting trip I went on is the best of my life. The guides are great, there's so much to do; During the day you're white-water rafter and hiking, during the night you're camping and talking with fellow travelers. Been twice, and I'd actually suggest that you don't go alone on this. It was much better to have someone you know go with you (there's up to 14 on a raft...nice to have somone to talk to).

5) Colorado: There are so many good skiing/snowboarding resorts in Colorado that I'd highly recommend you look into it if you feel like enjoying the snow.

There's more, it's just a little late and my head's killing me . Make sure you take a good vacation once in a while...
