I would be willing to bet it is 1 of 2 possibilities

1) the target US market MSRP did not align to the profile of a buyer interested in an x1 size and equipment level ev. They believe the US buyer would have demanded more luxury or size for the money...

2) production shortages, they do believe they could sell the vehicle here but in order to many support markets with limited production capacity they choose to forgo the US market and focus on others

MB is bringing the EQB, Genesis has the GV60, Audi the Q4, all are in the $55k-$65k range (before rebates) and 200-250 ish mile range.
I'd imagine BMW can sell a ton of ix1 if priced in the $50-$60k (before rebate) range and has a 200-250 mile per charge range.

My guess is #2 is probably the main reason, parts constraints probably prevents them from building enough to sell world wide.

Too bad. I think an iX1 would have worked for my wife - she does local driving only so the range would've been more than enough and I already have charging in the garage. Same with the iX3 until they pulled they plug (no pun intended) on that.

EU requires them to sell more EVs to avoid fines, and there is a shortage issue preventing them from producing enough to meet demand.

On top of that there is price. Its a 60000€ car with some equipment in the EU. Why would they give them away in the US?

It makes sense if they cant make enough anyway.

I think pricing is the issue. They can sell everyone they make in EU for more profit.

The specs dictate a max msrp of $45k in US. Importing and paying tariffs probably doesn't make sense.

There is more margin on the i4 and iX.

More like they would have demanded a larger battery capacity and peak dc charging rate. iX1 drivetrain specs are behind current tech, even compared to a Hyundai.

This is what happens when a company gives complete control to the bean counters.

X2 and X4 are ugly. X3 and X5 are beautiful. In my opinion haha

I think supply chain is the reason. I would've considered an iX1 when my Polestar 2 lease ends in 2 years. Guess still no new BMW for me.

BMW plans to manufacture the new X1 models at the Regensburg plant in Germany. An interesting fact: iX xDrive30's battery will also be made at the same plant.

It's very likely that the BMW plant in Spartanburg may have to be expanded - plus supplier relationships established - to make iX manufacturing a viable option.

I think "not for the US" decision reflects supply chain constraints and leaves the door open. The car will surely sell and sell well.

Not really. BMW simply sees the US for what it is: a very large third world market with underdeveloped infrastructure and uneducated customers.

BMW rarely officially states anything before the official PR (unless it's a halo car that gets promoted in CEO interviews and at various shows). However, I know with full certainty that the US iX1 was still in the plans as recently as April.

I would have bought one in a heartbeat as I cruise into retirement. Now the basic Fisker Ocean is back into front and center to replace my Tesla M3LR AWD.

Why would someone buy an X2 or X4?

I would have replaced my i3 with it. Perfect second vehicle. Now I’m going to have to wonder if at least they’ll bring in the MINI variant. I have a Model 3 RWD LR that I’ll keep for a few more years. Maybe the new 3er on the Neue Klasse platform will be the replacement.
But honestly, BMWNA is making really opaque bad decisions. I’ve never seen an automaker work so hard to not keep customers and provide room for others to take their market share.

That's crazy but I'm wondering if they are doing that because of the amount of shortages there is with item's. Although that would be crazy because it would mostly be made in the U.S. like most of the trucks and sedan's.

Range most likely sucks, probably not competitive enough for the US market. Euros care less about the range.

This third world market invented the EV basically, or at least brought it to the masses. Called Tesla, you have one I think, so you know.

My wife keeps peeking at Hyundai and Kia EVs, and we don’t need another sedan form factor in the family, with an F80 and an E46, so we will skip the i4 on principle.

The ix1 was the only thing that could have pulled us into a showroom.

Stupid stupid stupid. Wait till she sees the gv60…
