Will be cheaper to insure. Yeah that is model Y territory for average buyer.

All EVs have huge recurring cost in insurance premium.

The one thing they improved in this X1 version is to add a DCT. Yum!
Underrated sentiment.

I took my fiance's F48 (which is also our family car) to a skills clinic once. Of course it was fun. Another 100 hp would make it hilarious. If it has four wheels and a half baked motor it can go fast enough to entertain. Front wheel bias, transverse four banger...so what; deal with it. The vehicle should enable a challenge, not serve as a crutch.

I just don't get this nostalgia for "real" M cars. Who cares if other cars have quad exhausts? If you are truly an enthusiast, you should be glad that BMW and manufacturers produce varying levels of "performance" vehicles at different price points, to appeal to more customers.

Live and let live.

I think it looks beautiful for what it is & excited to have this product offering in the lineup now. The rear tail lights could use a minor revision in my eyes. And those hating on the quad tips need to simmer down. As soon as the 4-banger fires up, no one question is for a V8. Live & let this one rip down the road. Surprising others in its wake.

Agree, but I think what people at the top of the tree want are things they everyone else can’t get. So quad exhausts, a S engine, real carbon bits, M mirrors etc. should for them be limited to M only to make it special. I do get that otherwise the top car just looks like every other in the range. Drive and feel and performance don’t but looks, well it’s harder to tell than ever.

Pffft...they get 450+ HP, and an exclusive vehicle. How many yachts can they water-ski behind. Let us plebs have quad exhausts for Pete's sake.....

No, you get no exhausts as you started to brag when you got two so they have taken them all away, bad! don’t brag again unless it’s a capital M. M-Lites are for paupers and should be limited, know your place.

- Standard adaptive suspension (option on m340, standard on m240)
- M sport seats (not available on m240 or m340 in NA, which I've never understood, especially since Audi and Merc offer upgraded sport seats in NA)
- M compound brakes (don't think these are an option on m240/m340 from the factory)
- Quad exhausts (I'm all for keeping these reserved for the full M cars, but the aftermarket exhausts for the 240/340 are quad exhausts anyway so what does it really matter)

Also the new steering wheel looks great.

It's just odd to me that this car gets more performance options/specs than the far more sporty m240/m340.
I think we should all be celebrating that BMW is putting great features on any of there cars.I have an M car and could care less about them putting a quad exhaust on an M performance model. It looks great compared to those crappy looking fake exhaust caps they have been putting on a bunch of models.Hopefully the MY25 M340i LCI Part 2 will also get them.

It's indeed marketing stuff I also believe. And it's very active in the grey zone of "ignorance".

When I said to 10 colleagues at work I have a BMW M they almost all looked at me and stated: "Woaw". When I asked them what does "M" stand for, nobody had any clue. So BMW exploits it to the max, and while doing, it is diluting it on term... probably long term.

Ps, none of my colleagues talked as from then about my 520d F10, they all referred to my "M5" as from that moment!!!!

ignorance is bliss and BMW certainly exploits it in the none fan zone (which is HUGE) !

They have confused everyone including the people who actually own their cars

My wife constantly is asking if a car is a real M or a quasi M

To me, that says it all…

I have a e46 330ci and although it has a 3.0 engine, it wouldn't know which way the f 330 or g 330 went. It's not even close

I really did say: "it's not a M, it's an M-line, just some bells an whistles". But nobody really grasped that 'nuance'. When you think this is an exceptional mis-alignment, I can tell you that it's not. Almost nobody in the 'real world' knows what real performance stands for.

I'am flabbergasted how my colleagues step out of their 100kW diesels and into their 250+kW EV's and nobody really seems to notice the disruptive improvement. They are even mostly intrigued when I ask them this question: "did you notice the extra urge?". Then they say: "I already felt something was different!?".

M cars are special because of how they DRIVE, period. They're mass produced vehicles (173,000 M cars in 2022 alone) designed for enthusiasts who value things like handling and performance (ignoring XM). If someone thinks their car is less cool because it's not as "exclusive" then they never liked the car in the first place, they were clout chasing. And honestly anyone who really cares that much, is going to be able to tell the difference.

Indeed, my son of 17 is a real M enthousiast (M6c, M5c, M3c r and awd all in the Alps for +3000mls accumulated passenger-seat experience). And when he sees a 118i today with a M badge he still aks me: "is this a real M?". Then i realise the real commercial power of M. ;-)

This looks like an awesome commuter SAV. Who in the real world needs to go faster than 5.2 seconds for 0-60mph? $60K for a loaded X1 is a bit pricey though.

I’m in the market for something along these lines to replace my X2 daily driver in the next few months, and I’d rather go with a low mile used M340i or even a used X3 M40i. That is, unless BMW offers an amazing lease deal on this.

This thing looks great and I think will be a big winner for BMW.

Those people are losers. If your identity is tied to the car you drive and you don’t want others to enjoy things so you can have exclusivity, you should get a life. I drive an M3 with quad exhaust and many other proper M features. I also love how great this new X1 looks and am happy for the people who will own it because I bet it will be fantastic.

Agreed on the quad exhaust tips. So much for differentiating models by:
- 2 tips on one side - base engine
- 1 tip on each side - higher engine trim
- 4 tips - M

W.r.t. 35i, the current engine-> naming scheme is as follows:

FWD vehicles (X1, X2, 1er, F48 2er)
- B48 sideways: 28i
- B48 tuned up, sideways: M35i

Smaller RWD vehicles (X3-X7, G42 2er, 3er-8er)
- B48 longways: 30i
- B58: 40i (M40i for everything below 5er/X5)
- N63: M50i
- S58: M (3er/4er)
- S68: M (5er-8er)
