"Everyone" LOL.

Stop 10 people on the street and ask them "What's a BMW 'M' car?" and *maybe* 2 of them have any idea what you are talking about. True enthusiasts getting all bent out of shape over BMW watering down "M", just like all other manufacturers are doing with their performance branding, is just manufactured outrage and wasted energy. Get the car you want; let others get the car they want; let everyone enjoy their own car.

X1 gets the DCT because it's a FWD-based AWD (Mini Platform)
M cars no longer get the DCT for a plethora of reasons, but here are my guesses:
  • The shift smoothness of the ZF8 in manual and auto modes (suprisingly enough, people shelling out $80k+ often want a smooth automatic ride, only a small segment needed the crispy DCT shifts)
  • The clunky downshifting of the DCT (which I love in my F80, mind you)
  • DCTs were supreme for a while for shift speed, now the ZF8 is basically doing the same
  • Lower-power cars with DCTs are quite reliable, but high-power-ready DCTs aren't as common anymore (see Porsche PDK and VW AG)
  • Truthfully, I'm assuming the ZF8 is more efficient and more programmable, resulting in more software tuning potential.

BMW considers M Performance models M cars, so it makes perfect sense that they’d start including traditional M styling cues.

I had so much feels for the spec and brochure that I wanted to express…

But after skipping some pages of replies…. My feels are FAR greater from seeing such diverse ”real bmw enthusiast “ audience here 😂 - some new level breed too 😑

Oh yeah… loving this X1, bringing back the N55 rwd 35i vibes.
  • iDrive from the future for ID6 owners ✅
  • DCT ✅
  • Best M Steering wheel to date…. On roids ✅
  • Boost button, send itt ✅
  • Quad Tips, finally stop seeing butchered muffler deletes ✅
  • Multi-Colored Caliper Options, yeah put that rattle can away ✅
  • B46, bulletproof till 450? 550 Capable? With revised oil system? Bro.✅
  • M-Mirrors, yes please, tired of seeing cheap Chinese trash everywhere, oem parts from max spec models, fuck yea, all day. ✅
  • ——> NON-RFT. TFg.✅✅✅
  • And finally… SEATS that every F8x owner wish they had (non-zcp(1337 speak) atleast) ✅

X1 M35i, I approve.

Bitches In here crying their emotions out for a car they don’t even intend to own. 😂

It’s not my kind of car/spec anymore but I can see the appeal, and I think it looks great, especially as at Ł45k base in the UK it’s not much over a mid range petrol version! I’m sure there will never be a proper fully blown X1 M, because imo that’s not the class of car a real “M” is about, SUVs are not and never can be full on sports cars…

Completely agree but something tells me the owners of lots of X3-4-5-6 M Competition still feel they can sit up high and have a 'Real' M performance car. And BMW will sell it to them, X1 M, Mmmmm who knows.

Driving my bosses E46 M3 when he first got it was what made me interested in BMW's! I missed a deal on a great condition no sunroof 6 Spd in 2020 for $16,000 because I was more concerned with my business staying afloat during all the lockdowns.

Too expensive for what it offers. Maybe a good lease vehicle for a daily ride.
Gone are the days when we could buy a fully loaded 335i for the same or less price.

I'm curious if the US will get these seats, since BMW USA hates us having any sort of option availability on the smaller cars in the range.

Definitely still not salty about the lack of M sport seats and Merino leather in my G01....

They are available in the M235 Gran Coupe in the US. If they weren't going to be available on the X1 M35i in the US, they wouldn't highlight the option so prominently in their initial marketing push.
