U11 X1 xDrive 25e (Europe)

Good morning folks,

I have searched google for quite a bit and can't find any information on the plug-in hybrid X1 xDrive 25e and how the xDrive works. Let me explain....
Recently traded our F48 X1 xDrive 18D for the U11 X1 xDrive 25e. We have quite a steep gravel drive gaining elevation when exiting. The old X1 never missed a beat and never slipped... not even once! The new one on the other hand, seems to go into 2wd (front) randomly and isn't full time xDrive? Does anyone have any knowledge on how the xDrive works on the Plug-in Hybrid version of the X1. Are there settings I need change to make the xDrive available all the time? We love the car but we are starting to rethink our choice based on how the xDrive performs when you absolutely need it.

Thank you in advance!

You might want to turn on drive off support that ensures the car is in 4wd to get the best traction. Press the drivetrain modes its in there.

The car for us mostly uses the rear wheel at low speed via the electric motor any only very rarely uses the engine at low speeds as we rarely fully drain the battery.

Will do! I am out of town at the moment and won't be with the car again until October 12, but will keep you posted. I may even post a video of the behavior. So far I am not convinced this is truly an xDrive model if there is a possibility of losing rear wheel power because of a low battery. What do you do if you encounter a long stretch of snow or a long forest road with low traction? Does the car just leave you stuck... I hope to learn this before finding out the hard way!

As far as i know the car doesnt leave you without 4wd even if the battery is "empty". It keeps 4wd and 245hp with the battery empty.

Also, if you want to be conservative you can always keep some battery for later use if you feel better this way, by deselecting the battery from the settings and enable it later when you want to.

On e mode is always reardrive.
On Ice only is mostly front drive HOWEVER car electronic brain delivers power to rear electric engine as it feels is needed.
While these short bursts of e power are delivered even if battery is at 0 pct available to user, if you foresee a long stretch where you want full 4wd availability, I would select battery save mode in advance, so in that stretch I will have 4wd not just by short bursts but more continously.

Good evening everyone from central Italy. Thank you again for the tip! The "Drive Off Support" selection works well in low traction events and has acted like our previous xDrive model, but you have to select it every time you cycle the car on/off. I find myself selecting it and once the low traction event is over de-selecting it to save energy and maximize battery range. Would be great if the car would automatically activate/deactivate Drive Off Support when the front wheels are spinning due to low traction. As a side note, light off-roading and towing with the electrically deployable hitch has been great! 4 weeks in and 5000km we are satisfied and hope the battery and potency last the test of time.

I personally find the lack of having modes is very limiting. BMW could have a snow mode (soft starts with high esp sensitivity) and an off road mode (4wd more available for gravel inclines)
having had other 4WD vehicles with these features I found them very helpful. especially on snowy roads where wheels slip easier and in steep inclines with gravel.
even though x-drive is not bad, but it cant read the road.

You could try pushing the gear selector into L mode when on gravel. It forces the engine on so you should have all wheel drive. Then push it again to go back into normal drive mode.

There is no L in the PHEV models!

For a full Xdrive when in really low speed - i guess SPORT mode or Activated maintain battery charge option.Other wise is RWD

The xline has the L Mode and not the S Mode. The S Mode only comes on the M sport.

Any help on this? I Got my 2023 X1 25e (U11) a couple of weeks ago. A full battery charge shows only the 75km range and not the supposed 90km range offered (3-4 full charges already show the same range). Climatization is set to off during charging. Any idea why the missing 15km range?

This will be down to your driving habits, journey length, temperature etc.

75km is reasonable.
I am between 68 and 74km.

It depends on how you drove recently - statistics.

The 90km claimed is based on the official tests, I'd say not real life representative.

During the summer (UK climate) my 30e consistently quoted 42 miles range at 80% charge. However with ambient temperature now hovering around 10c range at 80% charge has dropped to 38 miles. So, yes ambient temperature does have a big impact on range due to impact on battery and more use of lights/heating etc.
