Yeah that's a good point. You have two fobs. If they lose one, they're going to have to cover the replacement cost

Exactly this. I’m giving valets the fob because I’m not going to try and explain how to use the card, no time for that lol. And most of the places I valet at, they aren’t allowed to keep their phone on them while working, so can’t share a digital key either. I’m just gonna keep the fob in my work bag.

At least you are not the guy that used to live in my neighborhood with the deafening Harley that departed for work everyday at 4am.

my next-next-next-door neighbor leaves the house at 4AM also! he works at the local airport. very nice guys... but... his Jeep Wrangler has an exhaust system that can wake up just about everything. fortunately, due to the unusual warm weather around here, he only warms up the car for about 30 seconds before driving off. it's so loud that my ceiling fan, windows and closet doors rattle. It must be karma... back when I was a kid in my 20s, I had exhaust systems in my Mercedes that had 3-inch pipes in a total bypass exhaust system that was probably louder.

I have one of those guys that lives in my building. Never fails, 4:30 AM on the dot. Then there’s the golf course landscapers in their carts whose headlights shine up into my living room at 5 am every time they go up the bunker on the 5th hole.

I was the hated one in my building before that guy moved in lol. My e90 had a cat less DP and a VRSF exhaust, but at least I usually didn’t leave before 9.

I just picked up my MSport 30e, 2 days later (80 miles on the clock) I had the Drivetrain Failure message.

Just heard from the dealership that the 12v battery was completely drained.

They are waiting to hear back from BMW before they release the car back to me.

Not a great start!

Too bad to hear that. Looks like a quality issue.

Here's one the things about the key fob also. When I start the car engine then I'm walking out the vehicle with the engine on (to grab something) carrying the key fob in my jacket or pants, the alarm horn sound two time loud. its little bit anointing special in a quiet neighborhood. I'm very sure there's a setting to disable it. Here's a picture of M sport keys, I like it, the key is very light compared with other brand cars that I previously owned.

this is a safety feature. there's no setting to disable it; there's another thread on this.

One thing I noticed about this feature though, is that if I use the digital key to drive, and then hand off the car to a valet and give them the fob and walk away, the horn will still sound. Only way to get around this is to turn the car off.

I can't remember which car it was(most likely a rental with the last couple of years)... when I put the electronic parking brake on, got out of the car with the keyfob and walked away, the horns would honk a couple of times... 10 seconds later, the engine would automatically shut off, then the car would lock the doors. There was a user-selectable setting to turn this feature off.

It could be that it's just detecting your presents and you are near the handle or are bushing it with something.

I tend to leave the keys in the house when I wash the car, I tend to find even a water jet onto a door / handle can trigger the car opening and closing a lot. So I just move the keys away after I've opened it.

As the original poster of this thread, adding that I ended up buying a trickle charger. I basically don’t drive for 3 days of the week so I hook it up to the charger. When I plugged it in today as usual the charger reported 3 bars ( out of 5). Haven’t had any low battery messages since.

What was the outcome of your issue?
Battery replaced?

did you buy a random charger such as Battery Tender.. or CTEK(?)... or a charger with BMW branding?

I probably need one as well. I mostly just drive it one day a week.

Thanks!

Angry drive to charge the starter battery message

ok can anybody clarify this for me.
if your main ev battry is dead , theres a small battery in the car to start the petrol engine. if this is the case should i drive the car in petrol mode for a day or so to solve this , as the car is plugged in every night and driven in electric mode 99% of the time . I have this car 3 months now and have been to the dealer twice already this will be my 3rd visit , I am not happy the car lists in ireland at 75k euros.

The car should start off the 12v battery, there is always a little power left in the HV battery but the car engine will not charge the battery to any usable degree. The idea of the PHEV is that when you run out of electric you can still drive the car. The 12v battery actually charges via the EV battery so as far as I am aware it doesn’t have an alternator to charge it like the normal ICE engine.
