How difficult is it to fit fender flares on M4?
I saw the M4 several months ago at the Houston auto show and it had a real presence to it. It looked truly spectacular (maybe it was the lighting). However, I saw a black M4 today as someone else was returning from their test drive AND I honestly could not tell if it was a M4 or a 435i with a M sport package (albeit both look good). If the M4 didn't have a M badge on the grill and quad exhaust, I'm not sure I would be able to tell them apart...especially as the black paint hides the side gills so that it sort of looks like the 4 series boomerang vents.
Contrast that to the M3 which really does look much more menacing and distinguished thanks to its wider fenders (I always preferred the M4 over the M3 until today). I really don't understand why BMW didn't widen the fenders on the M4 (which they are charging more for). Who cares if the 435i already has wider fenders...the M4 should be even wider regardless. Anyways nothing I can do to change BMW's production plans now. What I would like to know is if anyone has plans to add fender flares to the M4 and how difficult would it be? I've never done it before but to me one of essential defining traits of a M car is that it should have wider fenders. |

The problem was........wait for it.......it was black!!!
The car is already SIGNIFICANTLY wider than the normal car and already HAS flared fenders. What more do you want? |

Okay my mistake then...I don't know why I had heard that BMW didn't make the M4 fenders wider than the normal 4 series because the normal 4 series already has wider fenders than the 3 series. Either way no matter the color the M3's hips immediately draw your attention while the M4 does not (yes getting black magnifies that)

The reason why the M3 rear fender flares look more pronounced is because the use standard F30 doors and the distance between rear doors and wheel well is very short. They have to make the transition from the door width to rear fender width over a lot shorter distance than the M4. Than M4 rear fender flare has a lot more subtle flowing look since the transition in width over a longer distance.
As for the front fender flares, I think they are either the same or really close to the same. |

After seeing the M4 in person 3 times, I've never once felt the fenders weren't big enough. The car is balanced and proportional in real life. It is nearly perfect.

So does anyone have experience with adding fender flares? That's the objective part of my post. Whether you or I thinks the M4 needs wider fenders is of course the subjective part

^Lolz funny that you bring up Liberty Walk. I was at the GT Auto Concepts open house today in Redwood City right before going to the BMW dealership. So maybe seeing the Liberty Walk 458 had an effect on my desire for wider fenders. Though I'm not sure I need to go that cray...

The M4 is as wide as the M3 (based on seeing them in person)... and notably wider than the 435 (see the image below). The M3 is narrower at the trunk and then flared. The M4 is wider across the entire rear.

No, the M3 is far more dramatic than the M4 due to the bodywork to wheel proportions. Since the 4er bodywork is already wide, the fender flares are not nearly as dramatic.

Can't believe we're on fender flares already. I saw a black M3 yesterday, the color truly does hide the contours of the car.
