I finally ordered! Hope i made the right choice.

My last M3 was a E36 back in 1998. After testing the M4 I finally decided to trade my CLA45 in for a M3 order.

Nothing wrong with the CLA45 except since I test drove the Ford Fiesta ST I ended up getting one. The CLA did not see any miles thereafter.

I realize I tend to drive cars that are more fun. Deep down inside I'm thinking a Porsche Macan as the best utility daily driver but I have a record not keeping automatic cars for a long time.

So it comes down to a 981 Cayman or a M4 as a nicer beater. Ended up with a M3 since I feel if I screwed up at least I have 4 door and the cars are hard to compare. Any Cayman daily driver out there that had converted to M3/M4. What are your opinions?

I think you're going to be very happy with your choice.. I never connected with my c63 like I connect with my M.

Would you mind telling me which dealer you traded your cla45 in to via PM? I am in Michigan as well and I am interested in a pre owned cla45 in excellent condition.

I had a 987.2 cayman that I sold in order to make room (physical and financial) for an F80 M3. I have yet to drive an F80 though. I made the switch because I needed seating for two more as well as extra doors to access them. Truth is that if I didn't need the extra space, the cayman would still be in my garage.

Full disclosure: I've owned an E30 M3 as well as an E36 M3. I've spent a significant amount of time driving an E46 M3 and a fair amount of time driving an E92 M3.

Analysis: You have an M addiction. You try to move away and stay clean, but you can't help but relapse.

I think you're on to something.

I love the cayman platform. I really do. But it just doesn't work for me in this phase of my life. The M3 is a perfect fit at the moment. It's a great value and, in sedan format, has no peers. BMW could charge more for the sedan than the coupe if it wanted (like the old days).

You're absolutely right! Even though I got the M4, I HEAVILY considered the M3, just because of its practicality and amazing looks. I think you'll be happy.

I've driven the Macan S and owned a Cayenne S and it surely cannot replace the feeling you get in an M3. Macan Turbo sales will surely cannibalize the Cayenne S. However, they've made the Macan S slightly underpowered for its weight but still corners better than a 328xi I've driven recently. The Turbo (which I did not drive) will probably have enough power to take away sales from the Cayenne S owners who really do not need the space. A nicely spec'd Cayenne S and a much nicer speced Macan Turbo are about the same price as nicely equipped F80 M3 as well at $80K.

I've test driven them both and was only intersted in the Macan since it had the Porsche driving feel i was looking for. I love the Macan but I never driven the Macan S only the turbo. I'd imagine both are slow but the Macan has a sporty feel for a SUV. I was as very impressed since it was a SUV that drives like a car.

The new Cayman drives terrific and i've tested both 981S and standrad. The standrad is like the FRS. No power but almost the same car. Even with the S I worry I may not stand the weak staight line power and the GTS seems silly to spend 10 grand for a few horses more. At the moment the M3 seems most logical compromise with more room and getting most of the driving experience.

will be interesting how you think it compares to the R8. M3 makes an excellent daily driver especially now that it doesn't have the gas guzzler disease.
