For those running without TPMS ...
Question: if I opt to use a set of winter wheels/tires that either have the wrong TPMS or none at all, what is the extent of the electronic nannies I'll have to deal with on a daily basis?
I have a 2011 US model with Nav/iDrive. If it's just a matter of a message at start-up and a constant small warning light in the IP I can live with that for a couple months, but I don't want continuous gongs and flashing lights telling me what an ignoramus I am. And coding would cost more than just having the damn things installed... Thanks in advance... |

Yep, just a light on the dash. But I'd get a set because they can save your arse. They probably saved mine one time.

Coding is fairly easy. Might be worth learning how to code the car and do it yourself.
I recent disconnected my module and coded it out. Takes 5 mins and I can put it back. |

I don't see the point in eliminating the TPMS monitors. I personally think it's a fantastic safety feature. Detecting a low tire early may prevent you from being stranded without a spare tire, in the middle of winter... I don't care what anyone says, nobody can detect low tire pressure while cruising on the highway.

Thanks all. I agree, all else being equal I'd keep them, but if I'm able to pick up a winter set-up on the cheap that happens to have the older style or none at all I just wanted to know what I'd be up against.
