Is $62,500...
...reasonable to you for the base price of the coupe?
Would this be a "fair and reasonable" price in your opinion? SS

I think that 57 would be more reasonable. If it goes up market too much then they loose the consumers that are 'on the fence' at that price point. (such as yours truly). Who knows. It seems as if it will be >60k from the magazines.

With the 1.47 USD to Euro exchange rate. EU companies are at a big disadvantage when selling to US consumers in USD prices. $53K is out out the question. Anyone more knowledgeable car to build on the impact of currency exchange to the price of the M3 in USD?

No way I think it will be anywhere close to that but I do think it will be between $60K - $70K base price. I know this is a repeated thread of discussion but I have now seen the $62,500 in 4 recent articles. SS

No. It is not a fair or reasonable price!!!! I actually think that the coupe will be priced right there and with all options will hit over $75K before tax & license.

No and here is why
Both the RS4 and C63 AMG are in the mid 60's and come standard with 19" wheels and leather. The new M3 comes standard with speed cloth and 18" and is built in greater numbers. 60-62K would be about right if the new M came with 19" and leather... so if you take the price of leather and 19" out of 60-62K then you come up with a price between 56-58K.... I think 57K is a good and fair estimate... best case would be around 55k and worse case in my opinin would be 60K. Putting the price of the new M around the GTR (which comes standard with everything) would be a mistake. at 57K the price of the new M with most of the desired options, including DCT, is already on par with the GTR. The base price for a 335 coupe is 40k. What was the base price for a 330 coupe when the E46 M3 was sold?
Maybe that's a good way of having an estimate. It's all about marketing. |

I don't think that anybody will ever see that little price difference between the top 3 Series and the comparable M3 ever again. Just for an exercise, I would like my M3 Sedan with the M-DCT, Navigation, metallic paint, iPod/USB adapter, extended leather and Assist/Bluetooth. Those options alone are almost $11,000, including the Gas Guzzler Tax ($1700, estimated), using current 3 Series option prices. Notice that there's no power seats, no 19" wheels, no M-Drive, no EDC, no PDC, no Comfort Access, no Individual Audio... that's another $9,000 easily. So a base price north of $60,000 will make a fully equipped M3 Sedan some $80,000+, a Coupe some $2000 extra and a Convertible very close to $90,000. Around $55,000 for the Sedan, $57,000 for the Coupe and $65 for the Convertible are my estimates, as I said before. Regardless, whatever the final base price is, the M3 will officially leave the current price bracket for good, unless a stripper is ordered and even then a Coupe will be at least $9000 more than the MY2006 E46 M3... Yes, 62 is too high and I wouldn't be taking one at that price point. As has been stated plenty of times on this board; part of the success of the M3 in the past has been its price. This is one area not to fcuk with. You tend not to lose buyers based on finer points of performance, but you will based upon cost. I can not emphasize this point enough to BMW NA.
BTW, who do we think are BMW's moles? With the most respect intended, what does South do for a living? Have we seen pics of his/her ride? Has there ever been a post on what color he/she has? |

A base 335i is ~ $41k * 1.4 = $57,400. Maybe BMW USA expects to get a bit more, but I think that given the lower base spec of the US M3 that would be a mistake, especially if they want to maintain scale. As others above have posted, once you add in a few options it's easy even @ $60k to get this car to high 60's - awfully close to some great competition.

No standard 19" wheels on the C63. The 19's are part of the performance package, and reports have it the US will not receive the bigger wheels. I believe in the UK, the C63 actually undercuts the M3 in base price by a small margin. |

The price estimates have been made using every imaginable ratio possible, E46 M3, 335, E39->E60 M5, E36 M3->E46 M3, 550i->M5, the price in most European countries, military sales price rumors, magazine estimates, random numbers, $90k, prices of all close competitors, etc. All of these discussions are all over this forum, in thread after thread. There are also multiple polls on the topic.
If I may summarize, most reasonable arguments/calculations/speculations come in at about $60k+/-$3k. The horse is beaten and now badly disfigured and barely recognizeable as a horse. It is probably just about time just to grin and bear it (the wait)....Although I know, not much else left to talk about.... |

Pentagon Car Sales in K-town verbally stated around $51-53K. This is typically an invoice quote/military discount price. This would put the MSRP at around $57-58K. I have seen nothing in writing. My E93 was $41,900 base price which is about invoice in the states.
