I like it. Quality of comments about on par with this forum; as always, everyone defends what they personally love from the EVO, to the Volvo, to the Merc 190 to the E9x crowd. Nice find.
What matters is this: nobody talks about what is an RS4 killer or a C63 killer. M still owns this space.

At least there are many options today to choose from today! The RS4 Avant may have been a contender had it been available to us, but the M3 has been a dream car of mine since I first found interest in cars. I can for the first time call this one my own, and also my first brand new car purchase

It's cool that all luxury car manufacturers use BMW M3 as a benchmark. When is the last time you heard an ad that says something like "it's as fast as a Lexus ISF" or "AMG C63?" I really like how BMW ads don't focus on their competitors or bash them. I saw an Infiniti ad that show kids throwing snowball at a guy driving a BMW. Really? Like that's going to make me want an Infiniti because kids might throw snowballs at me if I have a BMW. Besides, the douche bags that used to give BMW bad reps have switch to Audis.

I too have noticed a massive exodus of former BMW owners to Audi's (not the type that enjoy the car, but more the brand recognition). Seriously, in PNW I tend to see more entitled Audi owners then any other brand (except the bicyclist). Just like the same observations many have point out here. Owning a car doesn't entitle you to anything but a driving experience.
I have been on the receiving end of many an off-hand comment over the years of M-Car ownership. Just smile and carry on! An M4 contender for me was the GTR (I know apples and oranges) . . . I didn't want to purchase a car that is coming to the end of the production run. |

I've never heard much, although a few times someone (in california) has asked, "what kind of mileage does that get?" and I usually say something to the effect of "15mph if i'm not driving it hard ... so like 12." Then there's usually silence until they walk away. Other than that, not a thing. |

I have to establish I've had M's since I was in my teens and before that I was riding the Mercedes bandwagon (lowered sedans/big wheels) and in between everything you can imagine (no F-Car's or Lambo's yet).
"Douche", "Must be nice", "Spoiled" - I have literally heard variants of these comments more times then I can recall. I have supersonic hearing, maybe I read lips as well . . . I am not douche (don't have the bro cut). Yes, cars are nice, but I like skiing more (I'll trade every vehicle I own for an AWD mountain capable ski car). I am about as spoiled as anyone that was forced to make something of themselves. I just focused at a younger age, much younger. I've received WAY more positive comments. My favorite (when I was in my teens and early twenties) and most coveted compliments/interaction always came from older folks that would walk up and just chat about anything! Many are people I cross to this day and we always exchange a smile! |

Nice find. What many people don't realize is that the Merc 190 Evo came before the M3 and is actually the reason the M3 exists. Thank you Mercedes.

Not quite. The 190 2.3-16 came first in 1983. The EVO 2.5-16 was launched in 1988 to try to beat the M3. BMW countered with the M3 EVO3 also with a 2.5L engine.

I was drooling all over that 190E 2.5-16 EVO when it was launched in 1988. I still have the R&T copy with the comparo between the M3, S2 and 190E EVO in my bookshelf (the M3 won to my dissapointment). Those fenders, body kit and wing .
