Engine malfunction

Got an Engine Malfunction light tonight. Came on afte about a block driving out my house. Limited me to around 45 mph. Turned the car around and parked it. Started it up again a minute later, and it came on again.

What I did install was an IPE F1 exhaust. I did it on Sunday. Been driving the car everyday. Drove maybe almost 200 miles and got the light. Any ideas? Could the exhaust be it?

I'll have to check in the morning underneath. Maybe an O2 sensor wire melted, O2 sensor undid itself? Not sure. Just throwing it out there.

IMO...really hard to say without hooking up to a tester and reading the error code. Recommend doing that first before speculating.

Yep. Borrowed a reader from my friend and will run tomorrow. Having the IPE exhaust, it's too loud to troubleshoot at 11pm LOL

You don't have to turn the car on to pull the codes, they're stored.

Are you sure you put the right O2's in the right place?

Yes. When I installed, I had the two pipes (stock and IPE) laying side by side. On top of that, the connectors for post and pre cat have specific connectors, so it's next to impossible to install incorrectly.

But definitely something worth bringing up. Thanks.

My game plan right now....

Car is still under warranty. I will bring it to the dealer to resolve the issue. Of course, remove the IPE exhaust first. I don't want them to turn me around due to catless system.

Once we figure that out, I'll post my results here. But also, I will get a proper tune by Alex at Alpine in LA (Great guy to work with BTW).

Thanks everyone.

This one is very interesting because the IPE F1 exhaust relies on vacuum lines from the brake booster to operate the actuator on the exhaust. I'll check for leaks.

Impossible to mix up primary with secondary. The connectors are different. You can move side to side but that doesn't matter.

Figured issue out.

Culprit was a vacuum line. The IPE exhaust system relies on vacuum pressure for the flap actuators to operate. The line had about a 1/4" inch cut which leaked. What prompted me to find this needle in the haystack problem was every time I shut down the car, I heard a hissing sound coming from the rear of the car.

I cleared the codes, logged about 50 miles on the car and no reported check engine lights, reduced power (limp mode). All seems well for now.

Thank you BzsBimmer for helping to diagnose!

Also fyi for anyone else experiencing the vacuum fault.. A lot of times this fault will throw cars into limp mode that recently had a brake fluid flush or change. The sensor is located directly under the brake fluid reservoir and if any fluid gets on it, the car will keep getting thrown in limp mode. Seen it happen a number of times. Hope this helps.

Does the sensor need to be replaced? I just had my brake fluid flushed and the car has gone into limp mode twice in 5 days since then. Both times I turned the car off and on and it ran fine.
