Ben's removed the flap all-together. Reports a tiny bit of a loss on the low end IIRC. It's a simple mod as you can easily see/access the flap since we have so much ground clearance.
Search for the "Uneven Exhaust" thread or something like that where someone was asking about why smoke only comes out of the driver's side pipe in the morning.

Ah yes, similar to the all too popular "Golf Tee Mod" on the older design. I did this on my girlfriend's E82...car had been home for 10 mins before I did it.

I've got a 35d, so I can't help you here (we dont have the exhaust flapper). Crawl under your vehicle, should be easy to spot.
