Oil level sensor

Every single time I drive my car, I get the "Oil level is below minimum" iDrive message. It comes up after about 20-30 minutes of highway driving once the car is able to measure the level. Once I reset the sensor, it goes back to showing completely full. Anybody have any idea why it might be doing this?

I think I read in the oil change DIY someone who had a bad sensor and caused erratic readings. Maybe yours too.

The readings are not erratic. It does the exact same thing every time I drive it long enough for the oil reading to appear.

As a minor update, the dealer has been working on this issue for over a week now. They've replaced the sensor twice with no change and have checked all the wiring. The oil was refilled 4 times as well to verify that the level is where it should be. They're scratching their heads now and still have no idea what's wrong.

What's the book answer on the time it should take to get a reading?

I believe it is after 10km or 20 minutes of driving. Something like that.

Interesting. My sensor just shows the clock on my 12 mile each way (nealry 20km) commute to/from work. The oil gets up to temp fast here in the summer so that can't be it...

Of course I'm 17 days out of warranty...
