I don't and have never been pulled over for not having it. Others have. YMMV.
I do have a US Millworks tow hook bracket for when I have to park at LAX though as they will ticket cars for no front plate while they are parked in the parking garages there. They are fix-it tickets so if you do get a ticket for one, just put a temp bracket on and get the ticket taken care of. |

+1 haven't had a front plate on for over a year, never got a ticket.
I think most people report getting tickets while parked, if ever. Get yourself a tow hook bracket for inspections etc as mentioned above.

I'd rather eat the ticket. I haven't had mine on for about a year plus I have tints that are obviously too dark. Haven't gotten one yet *knocks on wood* |

Got it. I gues the OP's state has changed laws in recent years then seeing as he/she is debating whether or not to have front plates or not?

In our state it's both from and back, haven't had a front tag in 5-6 years. Maybe, once every month or two a town, county or state cop will pull in behind me. They'll notice my rear tag starts with "NG".
I'm not one for favors, but if I can enjoy not having a front tag and the trade off is spending 6 months in a desert every couple years, that's a trade off I'll take. |

Has anyone gotten tickets when parked near the beach? I want to just put the plate inside to be visible from the window when parked near beach but I am not sure if they will let that slide

You might as well leave it off and out of view completely. When people put it on their windshields they're more inclined to give out the tickets according to an officer friend of mine.

Lived in CA for 7 years, and only got one fix-it ticket. Only cost $10 when I got an officer to sign off that I put it on.
I zip-tied it to the front grille, then promptly took it off after sign-off.

The SF parking enforcement reps have been instructed to specifically look for this violation and they've started telling the traffic officers to start looking too. My wife just got a fix-it ticket for no front plate in downtown SF. Parked at a meter w/ plenty of time and they left a ticket on her car just for no front plate. We don't take her car to the city that often so I'm just going to temporarily mount it and take it off after its signed off |
