Center speaker rattles in Sport Plus

When I accelerate hard in Sport Plus throttle mode, the center speaker buzzes and vibrates from about 3000rpm onwards. It makes it really obvious that the engine note is coming out of the speaker and ruins the effect.

Is this an easy fix for me to do? I don't really want to take it to my dealer (60 miles away).

disable active sound by coding or pulling the plug in the trunk.

There is something obviously wrong with the speaker, which just happens to be highlighted by the active sound.

If you can reproduce it reliably, on demand, you can save it until your next service appointment with the dealer, and they will replace the speaker.
In the meantime, you can either code out active sound (if you are comfortable DIY-ing that), or just unplug the speaker. But sooner or later, you need to have the speaker replaced.

I was worried you were going to say that. The next service isn't due for 15,000 miles so I have a bit of a wait ahead of me

I used to have exactly the same issue, as mentioned in this post: http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...69&postcount=9

It stopped after I changed the equalization to the first of the suggested settings in this post: http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...8&postcount=77 (reducing the artificial bass hump is probably what did the trick). As an added bonus, this also makes the HK system sound much more linear.

You might want to give this a try.

15K miles for the first post-break-in service?
I am at 4.5K miles right now, and the car tells me that the next service is due in 5K miles, or by December (1 year since purchase), whichever one is earlier. Are we on a more aggressive maintenance schedule in the US, or have you not been flogging your M3 and thus extended your service cycle?

I get a similar buzzing but its very faint. I have Bavsound speakers though so it is a bit more complicated than just bringing it to the dealer. I'm not even sure if its a problem with the speaker.

In the UK our service intervals are every 16000 miles or two years, whichever comes first. I'll service it halfway into this interval as it seems stupid to run a M with this long an interval.

One of my rear speakers was rattling at certain speeds. Took it into the dealers and they sorted it.

I would start by checking to ensure all the center speaker hold down screws are tight. There's 3 of them. Very easy to do, takes 2 minutes. Lift up the screen and you will see the hold down screws.

Same thing just happened with mine. Center channel buzzes during active sound but also when I have a phone call routed through the car it buzzes as well. Has to be a blown speaker or something. Sucks...I just got it back from the dealer and that was not happening before.
