New buyer question about Navigation "alt route"

Back in June I rented an M4 for the whole day running to meetings in LA, and the navigation seemed to always be "recommending" an alternate route. I tended to ignore them, as the one time it was recommending I get off on crenshaw blvd to avoid traffic (crenshaw is a no no)

Anyways, when my M arrives just wandering what you guys do, and if this is something I can turn off or if it is something that usually is a big time saver? thx

You can set the navigation in one of three ways: (1) ignore traffic, (2) recommend alternate routes based on traffic, or (3) automatically reroute based on traffic.

I have mine set to (2), so that I can exercise some judgement (I generally have Waze running on my phone).
