Question Who went from a 435/428 to an M4?

I love my 435 M-sport, but am planning on an M4 when my lease is up next year. For those of you who went from a 4 series to an M4, did you notice a huge difference? Looks, power, driving characteristics, people staring at your car, etc?

My last was a 435 with the M package. The M4 is a beast, while the 435 was a nice tourer. The increased power was, and still is, something that quickens my heart rate every time I get in. That was not so with the 435.
My MW does not get much attention, which is what I wanted. The AY and SO versions get a lot of attention, even here in LA where we see Lambos and Ferraris every day.

I had a 335i(E92) that was tuned to roughly 390hp, so it had ok quickness, the F8x is a good leap forward from that. If you took away the engine I wouldn't say it feels that much different than my old 335. It's not like if you drove an E46 330 then drove an M3. The E46 M3 just felt so much different than their "normal" counterparts.

Trap speed results between the two cars serves as a great indicator here....

Most recently, a 435i did 107 (xdrive, AT)
The M4 does 117-119 (DCT), 116 (6MT)

That difference is enormous. Our 435's feels quick. Imagine a car 10 mph faster and a full second faster through the 1/4. And as far as driving characteristics go, that delta is just as huge. Not bad for a car with a $10k price premium to start.

While I didn't come from a 335 or 435, My wife have a 328i M Sport with coil over, and my M3 still blows it out of water in terms of handling. Everything is nice and firm in this car and you really have to drive it to understand it.

I had a 2013 335xi msport and now a 2015 M3. The 335 is a nice car, the M3 is awesome. When your ready take the M4 go a test drive or a couple test drives that should help you decide. The suspension on the M3 is amazing, no floaty feelings just firm and confidant. Start up in the mornings is a lot louder, then it settles down to become civilized if you want it too? The M is just more fun not as quiet and firmer suspension but more fun. Don't miss those run flats felt like your front end was going to fall off when hitting a bump in the road.

I also jumped from 2013 335xi to the 2016 m4. Power and everything else aside, I thought the biggest difference was how the M feels much more glued to the ground. Prepared to get harassed at gas stations from men though.

My previous car was '13 328 with JB4, Bilstein shocks and H&R springs, DP and AA exhaust, and Michelin PSS 255 rear. Just cruising in my M4 feels better than flooring the 328 all the way. Yeah. It's a completely different level of experience!

Ride is not too rough and I feel a hint of roll, but it feels firm and tight while my tail bone doesn't hurt anymore. Can't wait to go to a HPDE to find out more! Also this car does not feel any heavier than the 328, which is impressive.

Car is pretty loud when it gets (cold start or sport+ mode), more than the quiet N26 with DP + exhaust. I like the way it sounds that I hear from driver's seat (with ASD off).

I came from a 335. The difference is so big you literally can't even think of the cars as related. The ~$20k up charge to get to an M is the best value in cars. Everything is affected. Horsepower, suspension, aesthetics/aero, fit and finish, seats, trim, electronics, transmission, etc, etc. The difference literally can't be overstated. I will never get a non-M BMW ever again.

The M4 is a snarling beast compared to the much more placid 435. The two cars really have no business being mentioned in the same sentence together. You will love it.

What was the difference in ride comfort? I found the 4-series to be normal/comfortable and the M4 to be a loud and rough ride.

To OP, you need to go drive the M4. The M cars feel very different from even a 435i Msport... it's just much more raw, significantly louder, and firmer.

Driving a 435i right after driving a M4 feels kind of strange, like the 435 feels muted (as in no engine sound) and floaty... almost like say driving a Lexus GS right after driving a 435i... hard to describe. It doesn't mean it's bad, it's just really different.

So really depends on what you are looking for... If you have a 435 and you are buying mods to make it louder and firmer, then M4 is for you, and it ll be a HUGE improvement. If instead you feel your 435 is kind of loud on the highway and plenty firm, then you should instead get a 5 series instead of a M3/4...

So it's really a matter of personal taste.
