Mixing Castrol 10w60 with Shell 10w60
Car is still under warranty
I just had the dealer do an oil change...and they are using the NEW TWIN TURBO SHELL OIL 10w60. I still have the Castrol TWS 10w60. Can I can mix the two together? I.e. like topping off? Or would I have to get rid of my 10w60. Still have 4 bottles. Thanks |

API certified oils must be mixable with other API certified oils -- it's a key requirement to get the certification.
Is it optimal? No. Will it cause problems? Unlikely. The two oils are fairly similar to begin with. It's not like you're mixing a 0w5 race oil with 20w50 diesel oil. In fact, some blenders encourage you to mix [their own products together] to get the desired weight. Red Line is one company that puts this right on their own website.

In the opposite situation as you - running castrol using the new shell BMW oil to top off as I burn through. No issues so far.
