Question Lease M4 or 911?

Looking for advice - should I lease the M4 or base 911?

I don't need any extra space or anything. I'm just looking for a car that will be fun to drive in LA. BTW, I recently sold my 2007 335i. Haven't been on the forums in a while.

Thanks.

If you are a millennial I'd say get the M4
If you are Generation Y I'd say either one is fine
If you are Generation X I'd say get the 911

I also feel modding seems more appropriate on the M4 and not so much on the 911. Just my opinion.

How does that have anything to do with it lol?

You'll have to drive both to know. The 911 is more of a true sports car, even in base form. I don't think the 911 leases very well in comparison though. You'll definitely get better value from the M4.

There's a big cost difference here. A lightly optioned M4 can lease well under $1000/mo, whereas a lightly optioned (I mean LIGHTLY, sport seats only) Cayman S will cost around $1000 (both ~$66k). A $90k+ 911 I'm guessing you're looking somewhere around $1500/mo not including scheduled maintenance either. But hey, if you got the loot....

Depends on what you want but lease payment will be much better on an M4 if that matters to you. If it doesn't matter, then well-optioned 911.

If you drive mostly on the street get a M4, lots more torque and easier/more fun to drive at normal street speeds. If you do a lot of canyon runs/track get a 911. I love my GT3 but it's a terrible street car. Enjoyed every minute of the 1,200 miles I drove in Germany in my F80 M3.

Unless there is some special end of year program, P-car leases are terrible c/w BMW. I'd only lease a P-car if you can write off some or all of it, otherwise buy a lightly used one.

Yup. If I recall the Porsche MF is a fair amount higher than the BMW MF (even if marked up by BMW dealer) and 2-year 911 residual is more like an Audi residual than BMW. I think they also limit residuals if the car is too heavily optioned. There may be a narrow window around MY changeover time when there is some factory support to move inventory off lots, but what is leftover at that point is usually sitting there for a reason (for example, less than desirable option package or color). Once that window closes it becomes more expensive to lease the older car because the residual drops a lot. (I looked into it before I got my M4 and was shocked that a MY2015 was less expensive than a leftover MY2014.)

They are tough cars to lease, particularly for daily driving, unless you have no concern about cost for whatever reason. In that case, just buy it.

911 if the terms are good. I don't lease myself but I have looked Porsche offerings before and I couldn't imagine being okay with the low miles etc. I think the M4 lease will more miles to use and should be cheaper. Either way you'll be in a good car but I prefer the sound of the N/A flat six. Good luck!

You will get hammered leasing the Porsche. The lease rate is more than double on the Porsche.

BMW over Porsche is a no brainer when it comes to leasing.

Last time I looked at 911 residuals they were not bad at all, they were in the low 60's,

It's also nice that porsche offers leases lower than 10k miles a year, since most people use it as a second or third car. I wish bmw did the same.
