Brake Pad
Sorry for such noob question but can someone recommend a decent street performance brake with super low brake dust. My is daily driven and really tired of the OEM brake dust, seem like no matter how I try to clean my wheels a day later it's filthy.
Thanks in advance |

Something ceramic, achieving low dust is usually a compromise for braking performance. I think Hawk makes a solid ceramic pad.

Front pad shape D918. Rear pad shape D919. One source for these is Zeckhausen Racing. Very pleased with these. As good of a bite as the stock pads. I think the brake pedal feel is even a bit more firm than with stock. Less brake dust than stock; but of course, not dust free. Less expensive than stock. However, when you use pads other than stock, there is typically not a cutout on the pad mount to re-insert the pad wear sensor on the front wheels and right rear wheel. Had to zip-tie the sensors away from the brakes. No problem doing this, and no warning lights either. Just need to be sure you check your own pads for wear down the line; don't rely on a sensor. |

Ceramic pads will create a lighter-colored dust that's harder to see; they don't inherently create less dust. Performance on the street should still be good.

I like PFC Z-rated pads. Lots less dust than stock. However, those StopTech ones Norm mentioned above will be an interesting option.
I'm currently running the Cool Carbon pads. Good pads, but the dust is about 70% (30% less) of stock pads.

The StopTech ones are a decent upgrade above stock if you don't mind a bit more noise. Also +1 for Zeckhausen as mentioned, great folks to work with. Feel free to call them and ask questions if you're unsure what to buy!

What is the noise that the StopTech pads make? Like race pads on the street (e.g., garbage truck) or ?? Noise is a non-starter for me for a street pad. Z-rated PFC pads are on the E46M3. Zero noise.

On my old Audi S4, they were a bit noisier than the stock pad when it was the dead of winter. It was just a slight grinding noise for the first few stops, then it would go away. Full disclosure, I also had slotted DBA rotors.

Stoptech Street Performance Pads are great for the street. Not super low dust, but definitely lower than OEM. Still retain if not exceed OE specs in terms of performance. Some low dust pads do not stop the car as well as OEM so you want to stay away from those.

so what's the best combination of cheapest, lasting, and most rotor friendly out there? Don't care about dust I never wash my wheels.
I save my rotor wear for my track pads.

I'll get flamed to all hell for this, but the OEM pads fit that bill.

Beck-Arnley? That's just the reseller's name -- they don't actually produce anything. OEM pads are Pagid-Textar.

Possibly something Ceramic as well? They are quite gentle on rotors, but the trade off is performance. They are usually "cheap"ish (when compared to OEM and performance pads) and will last long. Plus is that they also generate little to no dust ;D Cheers!

Akebono ceramics for low dust, Stoptech street performance for moderate dust but cheap and good performance.

(full context: the SPs dusted just as bad as the OEM pads on my Audi S4)

How do Hawk HPS's compare to the StopTech street pads? I recently replaced the pads on my Brembo BBK with HPS's hoping that they'll prolong the rotor life.
