Replacing E350 Bluetec daily driver - M3 or something else?
Hey guys,
I've owned several M cars including Z3M coupe and convertibles, Z4M, E36 M3. I want get your honest objective feedback. I'm considering replacing my daily driver E350 Bluetec. The main toy is a 15' Huracan and wive has a GX460. Would you make M3 sedan your daily? Or is the suspension too rough, too sporty to compliment the Huracan? I'm all over the place... 1) Used Alpina B7 - luxury and sport. 2) Used Panamera GTS - luxury and sport 3) C7 Z06 - no back seat but we have truck. Seems to redundant with H 4) Used Rapide - Awesome, timeless, V12, special, double dates, drives nice, no enthusiast community 5) Range - seems slightly redundant to GX 6) Used X5M - interesting prospect. wheels can give it an over-sized Z3 M coupe look with fenders and massively wide wheels 7) S550 - beautiful interior, technology, luxurious ride compliments H Why did you get the F80 M3? More importantly, what would you get under $100k if you were in my shoes? |

AS a young guy who dailies the crap of my M3 I'd say go for it. The M3 is a great DD, comfortable as comfortable gets I suppose. That being said it's more than likely going to be stiffer than your 350 blutec, because it's "sport" oriented. But like I said I personally think it's worth it as a DD.
As for why I bought the M3? I bought it because I've always wanted one and this came along at the right price, with the right options. I've always been a BMW fan so naturally I picked this up, and it makes me smile every day I sit behind the wheel. You on the other hand have a Huracan lol. Which makes me a little jelly but that being said it will really come down to personal preference. Are you looking for something comparable to your 350 blutec? If so perhaps a 5 series may be in order. Or if you're looking specifically at the M line the M3 since it's still less than 100K depending on how it's spec'd. I would say go down to the local BMW dealer and take one for a spin. find out what options the car has and what you like. Adaptive is a really cool option that might fit the bill. But for sure it will be stiffer than your blutec, so expect that, but it's a "comfortable" stiff. lol hope this helps! If you have any more questions feel free to ask but it will ultimately come down to personal preference. My honest .01

I'd pass on the SUVs until you're ready to upgrade the Lexus. The M3 would be a fun daily, and the S550 would be the comfy one with the most room. You have a great toy already. Do you want your "non play" time to lean towards the sporty or luxurious side?

Are you just going to and from work? Ushering clients around? I think you need to describe your needs first.
I'd go panamera or s550 personally. |

Love the Lambo not over done looks great. I would go with the Panni GT3 great DD with a great V8, but remember the 2017 will be out soon which will have nicer lines. If time is of the essence M3 would be a good DD. I'm sure it drives better than my M4 convertible which I got for a DD vs. my GT3, and it do all the things I like main reason dropping the top. The Panni does drive great with killer interior, and that V8 grunt in nice. So Panni first followed by the M3. Good luck.

If you like the E350, but want something more fun, I'd get the E63 wagon. Just over a hundred, but they may be willing to deal since the new gen is coming pretty soon. Or wait for the next gen E63, looks like a smaller S class, so you get both the luxury and sport. Of course this will be more expensive, but considering the other cars on your list, not out of the question.

Thanks for the feedback. Panamera seems like a nice compromise. But I'm sure when the new one hits I'll wish for it! Maybe CLS63, or S8 which can be had for $80k now. Its luxurious and likely the fastest petrol powered sedan on the planet!
Not that I need more speed. But even the A8 swb with the 4.0t is a great car and not as common as S550. But they are slightly boring looking compared to CLS or Panamera. |

I would get the S550... a full luxury car... if you have a Huracan, I would personally not try to do any sort of mixes or half way cars as they will all disappoint you in every way in comparison.

I got the M3 for its all-round appeal. if I had a sports car, and shopping under $100k I honestly may have gotten the AMG C63S, used M5 or Panamera. I'd honestly even take a look at the 550i MSport new. option it how you want, can tune it to be a pretty big beast, have plenty luxury, and a little more comfy. I have no problems with DDing my M3 on passive suspension and 6MT, but I would prefer specialized cars over jack of all trades if I had the garage space. Cup car, 550i/M5/X5M/X5 50i for daily or road trips, pickup, fair weather drop top, autox car (miata?). that's my goal. right now we have an M3 and Yukon Denali. they cover most bases and for just 2 cars, they're perfect for us.
good luck shopping man! good problems to have!

E63 AMG or an Audi RS7 would be my choices but it all depends on what you need it for. I think my M3 makes a great DD, its not harsh at all, I really question people that think the ride on these cars are too rough.
If you need an SUV I would go with the X5M or wait for the Jeep Hellcat. |

I would also check out a GL63... new the sticker on a showroom model was $123k, maybe they could come down a little and you could stretch a little or find one used. the salesman started it up and man... the sound of that thing was incredible. inside was very nice and I assume more familiar to you. I will say that BMW is a much more utilitarian style interior, much less flashy than the MB cars.

Personally if I was in you position I'd look at the new 750 or a slightly used lci S550 or S8, you should also take a look at a used Bentley flying spur
