Exactly why you don't drive in the snow with Summer Tires! I'm sure this guy learned his lesson. I hope it wasn't anyone here!

First off, why is that guy wearing shorts during a snow storm. Second, if that m5 couldn't get traction getting out of that space, does he really think he can do better driving around town on it. But yeah, I agree... Snow tire is a must.

LOL. Big expensive fucking sled haha. I would have paid money to see the rest of the journey home although I'm sure he didn't make it very far. I just envision a big downhill run from there and that M5 sliding sideways all the way down. I learned my lesson a couple years ago when I got stuck in my own flat driveway after less than an inch of snow. What a debacle.

so much win in this video! I had to share it with my friends that look slightly confused when I put winter tires on my M5 to drive Nashville to Huntsvile in the winter. I plan to make it home when I get caught in a flurry. ;-)

When I got stuck in my flat driveway I remember trying everything, including DSC off and 2nd gear start. Still did not work (but I had summer tires). Ultimately I got a big outdoor mat and put under both wheels and drove it straight back into the garage. |

I always thought Silver Wheels look so good on the M5.

I was caught in Freezing Rain with PSS2's (save the lectures; wasn't trying to defy physics or common sense). All was fine with caution taken, including a 14% incline with at least 3/4" of ice. It wasn't until I went inside to retrieve the garage door opener and grab a cup of coffee that things went...well nowhere. Not even a 1/2" of snow accumulated and the car would not budge. Not even on a flat surface. It took 9 hours, 80lbs of de-ice, and 40lbs of kitty litter to finagle the car 15' inside. After that I wouldn't even begin to consider an M5 with SMG, winter tires or not, in anything more than a light dusting. |

Hard to know but that M5 could have had snow tires. It snowed a fair amount last Monday and what you can't tell is that that street is quite a bit up hill.
It was not me but this is why I had to move from my M5 to a X5M a couple of weeks ago. Had many experiences like that with snow tires and all of the helpful suggestions in this thread. Snowy hills are not a good mix with an M5. Wish it weren't so but short of studded tires you can't change the physics. Last edited by WCH; 02-07-2016 at 08:55 PM.. |
