New owner...first new question

Hello guys;

Just picked up my X5M; thanks for all the advice. Quick question: I noticed that the radiator fan (?) runs after the car is shut off...I know this is normal, but it's 32F outside. Is this "normal?"

Thanks.

p.s.
engine temp was 200F

Yup. The extensive cooling system on the vehicle is pretty intense. Coolers not only for engine, but turbos, oil, etc. Check out the schematic some time (attached) if interested - serious cooling capability.

My fans runs from 5-10 mins after shutoff. Really curious how long it would run when it's 110+ lol

Yes, it's normal. Mine usually runs for 5-10 no matter what the temp outside. I find the length of time more dependent on how aggressively I've driven before shutting the car off.

What's NOT normal is that you picked up your X5 M and you haven't posted photos. Nope. Not even one. Not even an apology about it being dark outside, crappy camera, the weather, too busy, etc. Seriously, that's strange. So not normal! Who are you?

The fan runs after engine shutoff no matter what temp it is outside. 5-10min. No matter what the outside temp is, it's not hotter than the engine/turbos.

It should be the same amount of time, it's just the moving fluid around after shutoff to ensure the turbos don't have stagnate hot oil sitting in the bearings. The second purpose is is to cool off the engine, especially since our turbos sit on top closer to the hood. Heat rise and could cause damage if not cooled off appropriately.

The turbo timers do this for cars w/o a new OEM turbo kit. With modern electronic oil/water pump, the engine no longer need to run while it circulate fluids.

It reminded me of my former Shelby, however not as bad. The Shelby was like a garage heater and it was loud.
