I've had several updates on my 2014 MY...they performed one on my last service as well. Not sure exactly what the update included.

If they don't know what it's for, it must not be too important. Personally, if I wasn't having any problems, I wouldn't take it in special for that. I would wait until it was time to take it in for scheduled maintenance, and they could do it then. Depends on how busy you are and how much of a pain it would be to take it in.

I'm going to pick up my X5 today around 2pm. Will it show on my copy of services? I was in for my PDC system malfunctioning.

Taran, ask your SA to see if the update is available and ask them to proceed.
I have my annual oil change coming up this week, so I'll ask my SA about it.

Digital Motor Electronics.
Its a comprehensive management system for the engine that controls all the engine's operation, ensuring reliability, maximum performance and the lowest possible fuel consumption and emissions. Some have said that their performance have increased with an update.

Now he checked twice and lives in my community so I trust him. I asked him if it comes up to take my X5 for the day. We've done this before really works good for the both of us lol

Went for service last Thursday for first oil change and SA mentioned that dme software needed to be updated. I told them not to as I'm coded and have a 6wb cluster installed. I suppose it's an update for the 50i since most responses would indicate that. My build date is 10/15.

Per above, it does actually feel a little smoother and quicker. But the x6 was a 35i so it's probably just me. One thing I will say is the 35i is much smoother and has better transmission programming than the 50i. I asked the SA and it just said DME update, not what was actually being changed. |

^^ Wow, 1 hour turned into 5.5?!?! Definitely not a positive experience, that sucks. I had something similar happen, so now even for an oil change, I take my free loaner and I leave...typically coming back at days' end.

Same here, I never wait... I drop off my car, drive off in a BMW loaner and come back after work to pick up the car all completed.

FYI -
Dropped off the car today and my SA told me that he did update the DME on some F15 X5. He mentioned that it all depended on the production date of the car. My 2015 X5 which was produced mid March 2015 did not need the update.
