2016 X5 50i vs. 2016 X5 M
I was all set to purchase the X5 50i M Sport loaded with options but then came across the X5M. I'm new to the forum but have been reading posts in both areas. I'm looking for opinions contrasting both models and whether in your opinion the cost difference is worth it or not. I'm a huge fan of the M series as I own and have owned several M3's in the past. How good of a discount are you guys getting on the X5M currently? I'm looking to finance vs. lease either one. All input is appreciated. Thanks in advance!

There's a thread that's already discussed much of what you are asking. Here's a link to it.

I owned a 2011 X5 50i LOADED. It was time for a new vehicle. I test drove a 2016 X5 50i loaded out. Then I test drove the M and there wasn't a decision to be had anymore
The M is in a class of it's own FAR away from the 50i, which is a damn nice vehicle with a lot of power. I typically purchase our vehicles. Leasing the M made more sense, especially with my short history of keeping vehicles these days. If you can get the right deal with the right numbers the lease is the way to go (if that's what you are after). Honestly, I like the M so much I would buy it outright in a heartbeat if I had too Last edited by trev230; 03-17-2016 at 03:09 PM.. Reason: add info |

If you've had an M, I cant imagine you would dislike it, unless you are an old school M guy looking for a manual tranny and a more old school feel like the e30 or e46. I cannot comment on either X5s as I have never had one, but I never even considered the regular X5 as I knew the X5M would satisfy what I wanted in a vehicle.
My wife's X5M is on order, and for us, there is a huge difference in appearance alone when you see them side by side (maybe not so much the M-Sport pack) but you also know whats underneath the hood. Seem like the going discounts to be had are 8-10% off - if you lease there's an add'l $2k rebate currently. If you've been in BMW CCA for a year, throw in another $1k rebate. If the money isn't the issue, I vote M.

Thank you all for the comments and opinions! I'm going shopping on Saturday and with all hopes if the numbers are right, I'll leave with an X5 M order placed. Thanks again everyone!

I traded a 2016 50i M Sport with dhp to a 2016 X5M. The M in comfort handles better than the 50i in Sport plus.
0-100 in the 50i with BMS is 10.5 seconds 0-100 in the M with RC is 8.6 seconds. Hard to compare them. M is the real deal. Good luck ! |

I test drove the 50i a number of times when buying my M50d. It's a weapon, but a very comfortable weapon.
The X5M is very different. It's raw but still completely compliant on the road. Go with the M for sure.

Curious where you are located, my dealer has Donnington on Mugello, or did when I went, it had just come in. I would have taken it that day if it was carbon black.
If you're lucky enough to find one on the lot to your liking you can do even better I bet. Also if you lease and want to lower money factor, do the MSDs, provided you lease in a state that allows it. And one thing to add, the interior of the X5M could be even more impressive than the exterior. Throw in some no cost options like CF trim and 21s I think the M is a no brainer. |

Donnington would be my top choice if my other car wasn't a similar silver, I'd stick with that as it's an exclusive M color, CB is not. |

Carbon fiber is nice but the aluminum trace is quite nice as well especially on Mugello. You have to see the aluminum trace in person. You can't really see it well in pics. Nothing like brushed aluminum. Sorry if I made your decision more difficult.

Go with the cf
I have carbon fiber with Mugello and I really love it. Everyone who gets in the truck notices the cf right away and comments on it. I think it is unique with cf. really can't go wrong though.

Decided to definitely go with the X5 M. Please let me know your thoughts on this build and pricing. Mind you, this is the initial price the dealership is giving me so I think there is still some room for additional discounts.

PatrickC23, this is for a purchase. I'm hoping to get another 2K off if possible. I also have a $1,000 incentive from my wife's job that will be in addition to the negotiated amount. Are there any current incentives for purchases that you are aware of? Thanks for the input as well.

You would qualify for any other incentives that come out at delivery however.

Do more than lean heavily, get the M. I have a bunch of posts here about my disappointment with the 2016 50i albeit the X6, After 4 months I traded it in for the M. Order the M and have a blast.
