Poor braking initial "bite"?
Hello,
We recently leased a 2016 X5 x35 after returning our leased 2013 X5d. Both trucks were equipped with 20 inch wheels with the Dunlop SP Sport Maxx run-flats. The problem is that the 2016's initial braking bite is much softer and requires much more pedal effort to stop in the same manner than our 2013 did. I find this odd because the new truck weighs a few hundred ponds less than the old one. Has anyone experienced poor initial bite? I will try to re-bed the pads but the 2016 only has 800 miles on it and I broke in both vehicles the same way. I know that sometimes manufacturers will change pad material/composition, maybe that's what has happened? Our 2013 usually had a ton of brake dust on the front rims but the braking feel was excellent. My initial impression is that the 2016's pads are less dusty. Thanks, Franc |

I will look into whether the E70 and F15 use the same pads. If I had the E70's brake feel on my F15, then she'd be perfect! Hopefully something as simple as a pad change would do it. The M optional brakes are nice but a bit steep at $3k.

not really..... in fact the brakes on the F15 feels a bit sharper on the initial bite while in SportMode. anyone knows if the sport/confort mode also changes the brake pedal response as it does for gas pedal?

I usually drive in sport mode and still feel no improvement in the initial bite. Maybe there was a pad change for 2016? The part numbers for the 2013 X5d front pads and the 2015 X5 non-V8 are different but I wonder if the.pads are physically the same dimensions? Does anyone know how I can find this out besides ordering some 2013 pads? Part numbers are below:
2013 X5d 34116852253 2015 X5 3.5 34116857096 I used the 2015 for reference b/c I couldn't find the number for a 2016. Thx, Franc |

On my 2015 my X5 stock brakes barely had any brake dust. Initial bite was OK for me but overall braking performance was lacking compared to my previous cars. Admittedly this is my first SUV so I am calibrated for performance sedan braking power so this was a big change for me. Drove it for half a year with the stock brakes and it just didn't inspire confidence when driving more spiritedly. Then comes the M Performance brakes which I was told is lifted right off the E70 X5M. Boy what a difference all around. Initial bite is as solid as the M235 loaner that i am currently driving as better than both of my previous F10's (535 and 550). I have a lot more confidence in my brakes after this upgrade. The ONLY downside is that whatever pads they come with dust like typical old BMW's which is a ton. My front wheels turns black after driving around for a day.

I did a quick research over the weekend for brake pad solution on the MPBK. So far I only able to find EBC brand, which I ordered for one of my local customer.
But for the regulars, I found out Hawk HPS have a replacement pads. Based on my experienced dealing with Hawks HPS, it gives you a good bite with small amount of dust.
