X5M - A Few Questions
My M5 lease ends in October, and I'm likely going with the X5M. I'm starting to plan ahead, and had a few questions:
Every BMW I've owned/leased has been ordered, and typically takes ~3 months, IIRC, from order to delivery (I'm in the US). Given that the X5M is made in the States, what's the turnaround time? Let's say I want a custom/individual order (e.g. paint) - does that affect the turnaround time significantly? Ideally, I'd prefer not to overlap my current lease by more than 1 month (meaning, paying for the current and new vehicles' lease simultaneously). I'd prefer the MY2017, which sounds to begin around June or July (?). Given these circumstances, and the answer to my first question, can anyone provide me with a sweet spot time to order? I'll have a kid's seat in the rear (front-facing), so any extra room is welcomed. Does the X5M have the ability or option for the "Comfort Rear Seats" available on the regular X5? With my M5, I have an entire separate wheel/tire set for the winter. I understand the X5M stock tires are summer performance tires. Do you guys in snowy areas just do a tire swap in the winter (same wheels) or use a full winter wheel/tire setup? I've seen some videos mention that the windows (at least the rear) are tinted from the factory. Is this true? I appreciate any input, as always.

Turnaround time is pretty quick from production date to dealer. Obviously it depends where you are. My dealer is in NJ and my normal time is about 2-3 weeks from start of production.
You can place an order and tell the dealer you want to take delivery by X date. If it comes in early and you have the willpower, you can have them hold it until you are ready. It also depends on their allocation slots. They should be able to tell you what they have and give you an idea of when it would deliver. I'm not sure if they have pull ahead on the M. I don't remember. If it is due in after your lease is up, you can extend your current lease for month to month to cover (as long as you have a production number). As far as the tires, I have dedicated winter wheels and tires. I think most do. Whether you change wheels or just get snows, I suggest you plan ahead and order them early. Last year there weren't enough to go around. Good luck. |

Pressed submit too fast.
I never did individual but I imagine once you have a slot, you have a slot and individual shouldn't slow down the process. I'm sure others will chime in. |

Yes, they have pull ahead on Ms. I am in the same boat, but my M5 lease us up around January.
You might want to try and extend your M5 lease for a few months as the best deals and incentives will be in December.

X5M does not have the rear reclining seats, nor can you add a third row. BMW offers a good looking winter wheel / tire package, which I purchased. They can be hard to come by however. And of course you needn't go with BMW wheels. Rear windows are tinted from factory.

Thanks for all of the replies. In the past, I believe a custom color was running ~$5000 USD. I'm assuming it's still the same?

My Individual order (azurite black/smoke white) added roughly 4 weeks. Not bad as far as things go. Good luck. |

Thanks. I'm referring to a custom color, meaning essentially anything - that's around $5000, I believe.

just curious - what color(s) were you thinking? sounds like you're not too keen on the stock color options (certainly understandable)?

The factory in SC cannot handle true individual orders. Only cars being built in certain factories in Europe are able to be customized with an Individual color inside and out. For the X vehicles, you get to select from the semi-individual colors, with a $1950 uncharge. BMW will, at that point, give you a select palate to choose from. For the X5/X6 M those colors are Azurite Black and Pyrite Brown, coupled with three or four select individual leather interior options.

Currently, no. BMW is planning to expand the SC factory, and if all goes as they plan, to offer the Individual program on the X vehicles in the future, but currently, their ability to offer these options is limited.

Got it. Thanks again. So it looks like I'll need a wrap if I'm to go with alternative colors.
