Car's that have been updated (flashed) by the dealership to a newer I-Level seem to do that. I noticed that after my car was flashed by the dealership to update my ECUs, my iDrive software version changed to 3.000 (have to double check later). If you check the PDF file that comes a long with the iDrive update you are downloading online, you'll notice that the version is 2.XXX. So I'm assuming that the iDrive fails to update because it recognizes that you have a more recent version, hence it starts with a 3 and not a 2.
I've also checked with other cars that have been flashed by the dealership and all have the same thing happen. Not sure if it's a glitch that occurs or what exactly, but no iDrive update for the past year since I had my car's ECUs updated by the dealership has been working for me.
