Brake pads don't bite
Stock Stoptech Trophy brakes don't bite at all cold, better when hot but not great. Anyone experience this with their pads? What's a decent brake pads that won't kill the rotor or my wallet

Are they bedded in properly? I'm guess this is for street use so pick a street pad like the stop tech street. Pointless to use race pads on the street

BBKs don't feel like the stock system. The initial bite is typically less aggressive but it's more linear throughout the travel. My StopTech kit (with their Sport/Street Performance pads) feels like you are describing.
Pads do play a part in it, too. Some pad materials are not as "dense" and feel a bit softer. If you want to step up to a more aggressive street pad on that caliper, try the Ferodo DS2500 pads.

I disagree. I've had them on two different cars, one of which previous had the StopTech pads. The DS2500 has a firm pedal feel.

The ST ceramic street pads SUCK BALLZ.
THe Street/Sport pads are a good compromise pad. I think the initial bite is a tiny bit less than stock but not that much off but they dust way less and are better on track.

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

I do not recall what the trophy kit came with but whatever they are they do not stop for crap cold. I have a very firm pedal but they don't work. Hot they start to get better but I haven't gotten them at track levels aside from the bed in procedure months ago.
OK I'll look into some of the ones suggested |

Did you wash the rotors in soap and hot water before installing? I've seen a couple of instances of people not doing this for some reason.

The old "Street Performance" pads are now just called the "Sport" pad. This is what StopTech includes with their BBKs. It's for street and mild track use. There is a new "Street" pad which wasn't available before.

OP: Did you install the pads and rotors together new? Is this a used kit?
You might need to remove the old pad layer from the rotors if this was a used kit. I typically use an electric sander with aggressive grit sandpaper for this. It might also be the temp range of your pads. Track/race pads need to be heated to work correctly, which is why they are not recommended for street use. |
