ESS VT-2 625 Kit, What to watch out for?

Hi All,

Picking up my car from the shop tomorrow, they have just installed the ESS VT-2 625 kit on my car. The tune is a custom tune and not a ESS tune (since the reviews on the ESS tune is quite...sad).

I've always been a large motor NA guy and never really ran FI. Anything I should watch out for on this kit? The last time I had a FI setup on my car was my old 535, which had a crappy fuel pump.

Thanks in advans-ced.

Get use to the car before you take off traction control... It will spin for days with the kit

hahaha my AMG was spinning for days. I had a C55 with every possible performance mod available at that moment. The car did spin everytime i had traction off, so yeah... i'm use to it.

I also bought new tires for the M not that long ago. so I guess I should just order a new set lol

1. Your shop should mention, but if not, there is a break-in period to get your engine used to being boosted.

2. Traction will become a major issue so you may want to look into a good set of performance tires and maybe an upgrade in overall size

3. Wheel hop becomes even more of an issue so you may want to look into getting sub-frame bushings. You may also want to invest in a set of diff bushing but with those, comes, additional NVH so educate yourself before going that route

4. I'd recommend a boost gauge (I like the P3 vent gauge from ACM) to ensure you're getting all those ponies you paid for.

5. There's going to be a lot of power especially over 5-6k rpm so get used to it before you go race mode.

A break in period to get your engine used to being boosted? Are you sure that the break in period isn't for the supercharger itself? I'm not sure a non living object knows whether it is supercharged or not or can possibly "get used to it"

Thanks! I am looking into a vent gauge. Currently I'm sitting on ZCPs with 1 sized up tires (255/275) with spacers, so I think the stance is a bit wider. I am still using PS2s since they have decent grip. I am not really looking to track the car or anything, just maybe some 10 second spirited driving.

Yeah to me, it's not so much a matter of whether you track your car as much as it's having the freedom to go WOT at say 5000 rpm in 2nd gear and not go sideways during acceleration or shifting at 8200-8400rpm and not generating massive wheel hop as your tires try to transfer the power to the ground.

All I can say is I'm much happier with the day-to-day performance of my kit with my solid subframe/Diff bushings and 295 AD08R tires.

OP - Best preventative step you took was go with another tune...

Did you buy the kit new or used?

S/C oil changes are tricky as the plugs will strip on you. I had to buy an easy out to get the vent plug out with the most recent oil change. I'd buy a couple extra plugs just in case.

Also - I have a small hole in the bottom of the car's skid plate for the drain hose and tuck it out of view, and I have a small zip tie on the end of the drain hose that sticks out through the hole so I can pull the end of the drain hose through the hole easily.

Change the air filter via the fender liner.

Test Pipes, Wider back tires, diff and sub-frame bushings are your next mods

If I remember, the ESS break in period is 500 miles and then change the blower oil. During that period all street driving is fine just don't go to the track.

+1 the solid subframe bushings and good tires are a must. Otherwise you just spin. What a waste. PS2's aren't going to cut it. You can get the same tire side in PSS, RE71 R and NT05 you just need to size the front down to 245. These three tires fit perfect and have serious straight line grip. R888 is even better but you need different wheels.

Why not be a rocket ship?

Rear diff mounts are more important than the subframe bushings, especially if your manual trans. Suckers will snap rear diff bolts quick, also removes most of the wheel hop with solid rear diff mounts.
Break in period is for the SC blower, not the car engine.
